Day Trips on the Spirit of Tasmania $75

40

Tasmania jokes aside, it's a pretty nice deal for those in Melb!

Book a day sailing on the Spirit of Tasmania this summer and pay just $75 per person each way. That's a saving of up to $58 compared to the normal fare.

Day tickets have no set seating allocation, allowing freedom to move around the ship and enjoy the unique experience of sailing across the Bass Strait. There is also plenty of comfortable public seating available to sit back and relax.

The offer is valid for day sailings from 6 January to 21 March, 2011. Available until sold out.

  • the online booking is down, is it another $75 from Tas>Melb? What was the original price? Googling gives $110 for the one way trip.

  • Without being able to confirm,I believe these specials are usually on. I went on the night trip maybe 5 years ago and it was $99 each way for the business class seat. Not too sure about the day trips, from what I recall the boat doesn't have a lot of entertainment other than a restaurant/bar and a video arcade.

    EDIT:

Travel from Jan-Apr 08 $99 for day fare
From July 08: $58 for day fare
    From Jan-Apr 07: $85

I've been on the Spirit many times overnight (to take my car across/back)….and yes you are right, there is next to nothing to do other than sleep. Unless you need to take a car with you, or you are afraid of flying, grab a flight for well under $100 from Syd or Melb).

Remember the boat only takes you as far as Devonport.

  • I've flown to Tassie and back for less than $75 in the past year… not really a bargain.

Also, if you get on the boat you end up in Tassie.

    • +1

We don't want no uppity mainland folk down ere anyways…

      • and visa versa - you end up in Melbourne :-(

That price is each way. Compared to flying - you get to bring your car (extra cost).

Re the original post (Day tickets have no set seating allocation, allowing freedom to move around the ship) - if you don't buy a day ticket they tie you up in the hold and use you for ballast.

  • Virgin have sale atm and can get you to Launceston for $50.
