A friend says CRAZY DOMAINS Sux...

I was in a friend’s Home-Office, when CD’s Perth “Customer Care” section rang him, to offer Renewal to several of his domains.

He chose to renew just 2 Domains, after the caller Offered a good price, albeit for 9 years renewal, for each domain:

For .SPACE domains (for which caller quoted Reg. renewal price: AU$15.59 / yr), I heard the Offer of AU$11.10, which my friend immediately Accepted (after learning, that the Total cost for 8 years’ renewal was higher than for 9 years, BTW. ;-)

Anyway, he was offered (& he Accepted) 9 year Renewal of both domains at AU$ 99.90 each (or AU$199.80 for Both domains’ Renewal for the 9 years).

My friend wanted to pay by PayPal, so the caller agreed to send an Invoice, that would make paying by PayPal easier to do.

Later in my visit, an eMail - from Crazy Domains - arrived. But my friend was shocked & disappointed to see a 4-digit Total: over $4,744 (!).

Would you trust a company like this?

Has anyone had similar experiences with this domain registrar?

If so, please share them below, thanks.. /-)

Get your friend to whine here. We want to hear from the organ grinder not the monkey.

    I don't trust hearsay posts.

    • That's your choice…

He's been occupied trying to get them to Follow-Thru on their offer,
speaking with consumer affairs (since the call came from WA (AU),&
they have an AU 1300 number…

      His wife has since told me he's very disappointed with what happened;
he seems to think that - because he chose to renew only the 2 .SPACE
domains, instead of all ~18 or so, that are coming due for Renewal,
that this "Bait & Switch" trick is meant to "pressure" him to Renew
all of them, before he wishes to do so.

Dunno… who knows? Maybe Crazy Domains is sinking in the AU market.

Any Registrar worth their salt ought to be able to "survive" accepting
their own Offer to a larger-than-average customer, over a 9-year
Renewal period. My fiend's got some .Science & other domains, on top
of the two (2) we Accepted the Renewal deal for.

      (15.59 - 11.10) / 15.59 = 4.49 / 15.59 = just under 29%

How big a "loss" can their following-through on their Offer comprise?

(If it's such a large loss, they should train Out-Going sales-callers
Not to make such offers, IMO. ;-)

      You're a brave power user

      +1 on you

  • This sounds really strange. I've had domains registered for years with Crazy and haven't ever had a phone call from them asking/offering something like this.

Not sure how true this story can be. Sure, I find their servers slow but I don't think they'd rip people off like that. Are you sure your friend wasn't hit by a scammer? Check the email…

I've also been a customer for years and have never recieved a call (from them directly, I suspect they sold my information though)

      • That's definitely a possibility. It's unbelievable how often that happens. They are definitely not worth using for any services. I haven't had issues with registering domains though.

  • I've had domains with them in the past and wouldn't ever use them again, very dodgy

    • Can you share What they did, that seemed dodgy..?

For domains in 2016+, switch to GANDI
CrazyDomains / GoDaddy are terrible and nobody in the know uses them.

  • I had some issues with them cancelling access to my business account when an employee left and his email was cancelled. They wouldn't update our account despite various authorizations to do so. As a result of DNS went down upon expiry for 3/4 months while I argued with them. We were left without a web presence in this time.

I've moved to NetRegistry and am glad I did.

  • Yeah .space domains are so consumer friendly. I can almost think of one business in the world that would find it useful over .com.

But hey, registrar's gotta make money on the side.

    • My fiend's got some .

    • "Who Cares… Wins!" :-)

      I gotta good Friend, and
he's been taken for the Deal
that was dangled before his eyes.
