Wizard Clear Advantage Mastercard Transition to 28 Degree

Anyone get moved from the clear advantage mastercard to the 28 degree card.

i noticed the card number stayed the same and completely didnt think to contact all my automatic debit merchants to inform them of the new expiry date.

ive now been charged a number of fees (around $7 each) for declined payments.

will i have any hope of getting these fees refunded by wizard/28degrees?

secondly, are most people savvy enough to have realised they needed to do this. and im just not?

thanks

  • Everyone got moved, I would have thought all customers knew this.

I almost did forget to update my details, but then I remembered, lucky for me I don't have any automatically charged payments.

  • are we meant to get new card?

  • Hi, yep I got the new 28 degrees card as well. I am sure that the last 4 numbers on the card are slightly different - will check later today. I would never have thought a need to change the expiry date on a direct debit. That couldn't be the problem could it? —- that would mean when every time you get a new credit card when the old one expires this would happen which you would think would be a huge pain in the backside. And more people would know about it. I don't have any direct debits on this particular card. Am really interested in how you go getting the declined payment charge refunded and the reason why it was declined in the first place.

    • No change in last 4 digits. 28degrees did tell you in the letter you have to update any direct debit details. Same thing if the card is replaced due to wear and tear, suspected fraud, etc. You also have to when any card nears expiry. However in that case, often the merchant contacts you.

If you think this is a pain, then perhaps you should use a DD from a bank account instead.

      • thanks greenpossum, i know you were talking to sparkyglo, but did the letter say to update expiry on direct debit, i cant find my letter to check. i did notice now that the email they sent out about a month before the card arrived did say to update the direct debits. I didnt read that email properly though. Im just curious about the letter, as i usually give those things a quick read.

im just interested to know, im not going to try for any refund as it was in the email.

        • Yes it does, read it again.

  • Hi about halfway down on the letter it says "Your PIN remains the same. In fact, the only thing you'll need to change is the card expiry date on any automated payments you may have"

    • cheers didnt give it enough attention

      • But given you only got the card, you might have a case to argue, that you couldn't change details until the new card arrived. They might be lenient especially as its their fees they are charging.

        • The card is attached to the letter.

        • if it is their fees i would ask, but given the fees have been different, i guess its the merchants. Whose fees would it be?

off topic, how can i deactivate replies to my comments, like greenpossum has in this thread? be good to know in the future.

        • AFAIK you can't, a post will become unreplyable after some period. Also you can't reply beyond a certain nesting to avoid staircased threads. I didn't do nuttin… :)

        • Greenpossum is right its the levels

          As for fees

If its on the 28 degrees card as fees then it would be GE. Plus you said it was the same amount $7 so unlikely its other fees as each company charges different amounts. You may be in for a shock as those others may charge fees on their accounts.

Like GP says using DD from a credit card is something to avoid. Either do it yourself or DD from a bank account. But it depends on what the provider requires. Vodafone Customer service required this when I set up my account, but after it was set up I deleted it on the internet account setup and pay myself.

I use google calendar to send me an SMS to remind me of bills to pay. Its free works well and I can pay with whatever card or account suits me

  • is it just me or is the new card is SO MUCH UGLIER AND SOFTER? it feels like its going to break

    • I almost made a "that's not what your mum said" joke here.
