Still USB 2.0?
ALso the plastic shell is flimsy - spend a few bucks more on usb3 and a metal chassis.
I have carried one of these in my pocket (with keys etc) to & from work every day for several years, and never had a problem. A bit slow if you are copying large files, but for small files (like spreadsheets, documents) it is fine.
Cheap for 64GB, but shame that it's only USB 2.0
I guess you can't be picky at this price though!
I guess you can't be picky at this price though!
I can.
Well lol, I guess you can but the thing is unless you find me a 64gb USB 3.0 for ~$20 it's not worth paying the extra (for me anyway).
If something is needing to be constantly accessed I'll use internal storage for it.
Why is everyone concerned with USB3? This drive has a write speed of 3.8MBytes/sec, and a read speed of 17.55MBytes/sec. USB2 does 50Mbytes/sec, more than fast enough for this drive. The speed limitation isn't the USB interface, it's the drive's flash memory that is the limitation.
Speed numbers from here: http://usbspeed.nirsoft.net/?g=64gb
So you're saying that the memory speed is so poor it doesnt even matter if its usb2… what a glowing endorsement!
Plenty good enough for the MP3 slot in your car though…
Maybe a bit crap for installing windows etc.
I agree. Iroincally I have an 8Gb one of these in my car right now but I bought them for literally as few bucks.
A while back HN officeworks had these for like 3 x 8Gb for $5?
I kind of expect more for $19 though.
yep, great for MP3s in the car, taking some movies to friends house, or bringing back from friends hose, or back-up your phone …..
Problem is the initial seeding times if you are in a hurry.
TGG had the Samsung metal ones, 64GB, USB3 for $25 so for me that's the benchmark.
Usually usb3 drives come with better read/write speeds.
It'll take forever to fill this drive. Better get the Samsung Bar (metal) when it's on sale.
samsung 64GB usb 3 was $25 at TGG and office works in January, so depends on your urgency for 64GB storage.
You'll be able to pick these USB 2 flash drives up for next to nothing before long. Much better to go with a USB 3 drive with a quarter of the capacity for the same price.
Good price but it is USB 2
