Samsung Galaxy Note 8, NZ Stock Sold as AU Stock with Manufacturer's Warranty on eBay

Dear OzBargain,

Long time lurker, first-time poster. Not a native English speaker so pardon my writing. I bought this Galaxy Note 8 on eBay as the seller described it's an AU stock with the full manufacturer's warranty. The box was sealed with the genuine Samsung's seal. All the accessories and the phone were in brand new condition. However; upon the inspection of IMEI, I discovered that the phone was purchased in NZ. I contacted Samsung AU and they confirmed it and advised they will not provide any warranty. When I contacted the seller via eBay, first they tried to sell the usual crap that a phone purchased in AU/NZ gets the warranty in both countries, which is not true. Now they are advising to return the phone.

What will be the best strategy to get a full refund? Apart from the broken seal on the box, all items are in the brand new condition and unused.

Thanks in advance.

Start a PayPal, not eBay dispute..

Paypal, then select the "significantly not as described" option as reason for a dispute.

    • Thanks. The listed price was AU$989. With 10% "PORONTO" code discount, came down to AU$ 890.1. Paid $800 with eBay gift cards and $90.1 by PayPal. Do you think it will create any issue with the refund??

I don't actually know. eBay and Paypal are now two separate entities and they are sort not getting along with each other anymore.

Contact eBay for help first, as I think your case is now quite complicated as you used two different methods of payment.

        • Thanks, will make an eBay refund request then.

good find. If pisslur's link is correct, it would be wise not to toss away used eBay giftcards if you're expecting a refund ruled in your favour.

@scrimshaw: Yeah, I agree. Thank God that I didn't throw away my eBay gift cards.

  • What did you use to check your IMEI code?
