Powercolor AMD Radeon 5870 2gb Eyefinity 6 edition $365 at KS Computer

40

With the release of the 6900 series yesterday, prices of 5870 cards have been slashed to the bone.

I missed out on the 1gb Gigabyte cards at MSY for $330 but went to KS Computer and picked up a 2gb Powercolor card for $365.

Yes it is outdated tech, but the card goes well.

I note it is not even shown on their website, so give SJ a call at their Stanmore store on 9568 5588….

It has 6 mini displayport outputs. Anybody know a good place to buy mini displayport to displayport cables that don't cost the earth?

About $12.50 for a mini-dp to dp adapter, also quite cheap prices on all other mini-dp adapters.

    • Thanks for the DX link - should have thought of that.

My ideal would be a single 3m long cable that has mini displayport male at one end and displayport male at the other.

I found it, but it's $38 at Mac Fix It….

That is a lot to pay for a simple cable.

I can replicate that using an adaptor and a cable from DX for about $26, but a single cable solution would be great….

  • 6 outputs… nice… only today I was wondering why my old 9800 GX2 has so few… was thinking to get another of those (if I could find one cheaply) but then the PSU requirements are absurd for 2 x 9800GX2 … a quick Google tells me this card likes a decent 600W PSU.. which is less than my old 9800GX2 demands.

  • I hate KS Computer! They have a huge sign out the front saying they won't be beaten on price, yet they always refuse to match or beat MSY which is literally across the road. They SUCK!

    • Hehe I didn't notice the sign, but I can understand your frustration if that is the case.

Not many places match MSY consistently, particularly as MSY never answer the phone so those that want to check stock availability cannot do so.

Yesterday was the first time I've dealt with KS, and based on that experience I will again when Fluidtek isn't open…

  • Cant seem to find it on their store but I can see the Gigabyte version with 2xDVI 1xHDMI for 385

    • I couldn't find any Powercolor cards on their site at all - but they do have them. As per my posting, call them.

That Gigabyte is the 1gb version, not the 2gb…. It's the same one MSY cleared out for $330 yesterday.

  • Just did some looking around and it appears the 5870 is only very slighly faster than the 6870. Considering the 6870 is $273 at MSY save yourself a hundred bucks and get a 6870.

    • Fair call - but the $273 card is a 1gb. The extra memory is handy if you run more than 1 screen or you play DX11 games.
