The more i get into photography, the more gadgets i feel i need to buy to help me improve my photography. That or i have a bad case of GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome).
Either way this monopod and pan/tilt head is the perfect addition to help keep the camera steady and get good shoots while on the go, reducing the chance of images being blurred by movement or unsteady hands.
Extremely lightweight and portable yet rigid being made from carbon fibre, it's also good for vlogging giving you some extended reach.
This will take a full sized DSLR with a large zoom lens, or a small mirror-less camera like I use.
Not to mention the 6 year local warranty if anything should happen to go wrong leaves you with peace of mind.

This is the cheapest I have seen this, at only $218

Sirui P-326 Monopod with Sirui L-10 Tilt Head Kit a perfect combo

Sirui P-326 Carbon Fibre Monopod
For ultimate stability, nothing but a tripod will do. However, there are times when a tripod is not practical or allowed. A monopod offers excellent stability when working with long telephoto lenses and makes a difference in low-light situations. Monopods are easy to carry, can be setup instantly and are ideal when you are working in tight spaces.

You've seen sports photographers on the sidelines with huge lenses-they are given small spaces to shoot from and often need to quickly move from place to place. Using a tripod is not an option under these conditions. Only a monopod will do the job!

SIRUI P-326 monopod has 6 sections that extend to 154 cm (60.6 in.) when fully opened, yet, are only 38 cm (15 in.) when closed - small enough to fit in a backpack or photo bag. All models come with a wrist strap and useful compass. At only 0.4 kg (0.9 lb), there's no excuse for being without a SIRUI monopod.

You Sir (or Madame?) are one of the reason I love OzBargain.
Find a better deal and everyone wins!
So I got in touch with SOS and they weren't happy to be beaten on on this deal.
They have offered to beat the eBay pricing!

I've updated the deal with the new code SAVE-110-TODAY.
You can now get this for $218!
They will also refund the difference anyone who already purchased it through this deal.
Not to mention one of those sellers on Ebay is from Darwin (are they actually in Darwin? I've bought from "Darwin" before and had items come from overseas).

I don't know about you but i'd call this awesome customer service!

The structure of this reply makes it sound like it came from a dodgy salesman.

        • Just a happy consumer - you've helped me get a better deal too.

@fury: Not a problem, but based on your post history and grammar it seems like you purchase a lot of tripods and bags from SOS. Are you sure you are not affiliated with them using a secondary account?

        • @YellowKnight:
I've bought a Sirui bag and Tripod from them. I've been very happy with the gear, and SOS have been awesome to deal with. I've emailed many other retailers asking for deals on gear I've been interested in and none have been interested in helping. Perhaps i should start a post on the forums about experiences trying to get deals?

Apologies on the grammar, i do not have a PHD in English.

    • What's the issue dealing with them? I bought a tripod and tripod head from them and they were great to deal with. Their customer service I thought was excellent..

  • "The more i get into photography, the more gadgets i feel i need to buy to help me improve my photography."

If this is correct, then I advise to stop spending money. The more you buy won't make you a better photographer. You either have it or not.

    • Photography has been taking up most of my spare time lately but i find i really enjoy it.
Some gear definitely helps. I don't have the steadiest hands and a tripod has helped me take some great landscape photos, but i did find i missed a few shots due to the time it takes to set up, hence looking at monopods.

I've held off buying additional lenses (with difficulty) until i have more experience with my current kit. I will most likely get a wider lens next for landscapes though - i'll be sure to post up my deal on that too.

      • Having an eye for a good photo is different from having good gear to lets say take a shot of a fast moving subject. Now if you have a good eye but not good gear, of course you won't get a good shot of a fast moving subject.

Now to the improvement. If you don't have a good eye, not even the best of the best gear will help you get good photos. When I started photography, other peoples' comments were wow how do you do that, and I had a crappy camera. Didn't know about the iso, exposure, etc., was just like natural. Kind of like you can have good gear to paint a painting, but that won't make you a great painter if you don't already have it in you.

Depending on whether you seriously want to get into it I would advise joining a photography club first and not splurging on camera gear before you know you are good with it. Otherwise later on you will find out you have spent all that money and you are still where you started, which is the beginning.

Gear can help you get "better" photos, but it won't make you a better photographer.

      • If you dont have the steadiest hands and not enough time to setup a tripod, then I was always told to use a small beanbag to rest your camera on to steady it. That way any rock/fence/tree can become a makeshift 'tripod' for your shots.
