Are Flybuys Points Better Value than Velocity Points for Travel?

I am considering transferring my Coles Flybuys points to Velocity. Any thoughts out there on which rewards points are better? I am looking at Brisbane to Los Angeles.
AmI better to stick with Flybuys for travel or are Velocity points the better way to go. I have tried to compare but it just gets a bit confusing!!!

Thanks in advance for your help.

Velocity points can be great value (especially during the current 30% off sale), but you'd need a LOT of Flybuys points to get a meaningful amount of Velocity points.

BNE to LAX is currently 31,300 Velocity points with the sale, so you'd need more than 62,000 Flybuys points to transfer over with the 15% extra bonus offer to make us of it.

I think for Flybuys, just save the points for $10 off your shop.

I actually have over 250,000 Flybuys points. I have been saving up with the idea of using them for an overseas trip.

      • Then go business :)

    • 31,300 is going one way + add taxes in.

If paying all cash return the price is roughly $1300 compared to $1000 one way, makes a pretty big difference to book return vs one way too. Remember to check all options

  • That's a lot! I think there is a limit to the number of points you can transfer in a year (138,000 Flybuys points), which might be enough points for one person return BNE-LAX.

Check the dates you want to travel on Virgin Australia's website, first in cash then in points.

If it's on sale with cash (with VA or any other airline), I'd go with that.

If cash fares are pricey but you do see reward seats for around 31,000 points, then perhaps that would be better value.

  • Yes It is! I have a Coles Mastercard so get between one and two points for everything I use the card for. As I can pay the card off monthly I do not get any finance charges.
Thanks for the tips, I will check that out.
