Fastest Video Card for Optiplex 9020

Hi Ozbargainers,

So I have won myself an Optiplex 9020 SFF desktop on Ebay and now I'm trying to find the fastest video card that can fit into it. I was about to purchase the 1050TI low profile but also found a 1050ti "overclocked" low profile version. Can the OC version fit in the optiplex 9020?? And is it worth the extra $44.80 for the OC version? Or is better to get the Non OC and just overclock it yourself to save $$$$.

Thanks heaps

Homr

  • AFAIK, there is no such price difference ($44.80) between OC and non-OC versions. Check again if both are 1050 "Ti" with 4GB memory, because I also get confused between 1050 and 1050Ti. You can find 1050 "Ti" Low Profile model manufactured by MSI(GTX-1050-Ti-4GT-LP) or Gigabyte(GV-N105TOC-4GL) at around $240 shipped.

For the same 1050Ti with 4GB models, the performance difference would be negligible (1~2 fps?) between non-OC or OC versions. I'd choose a cheaper one if it's made from well-know manufacturer.

  • hey mate,

    here's the 1050ti Non OC $299
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/MSI-GeForce-GTX-1050-Ti-4GB-Low-P…

    Here's the OC version $355
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Gigabyte-nVidia-GeForce-GTX-1050…

after factoring the 20% ebay discount, the difference is $44.80 if im not wrong.

    • Gigabyte OC version $299: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Gigabyte-GV-N105TOC-4GL-GeForce-G…
      After 20% off with P20TECH, it's $239.2 same as MSI model. ;)

      • Ok now I'm confused lol :(

So we have 3 versions of the 1050 in low profile

        1050, 1050ti and 1050ti OC

The MSI 1050ti is the same price as Gigabyte 1050ti OC?

Is that right? And does the Gigabyte OC version fit in the Optiplex 9020 because I heard some OC versions require another 6pin connector.

        Thanks.

        • Look here for the specs

          https://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/GV-N105TOC-4GL#sp

          "GV-N105TOC"
Power connectors are N/A (that means it will not require the 6pin PCIE connection)

          Card size
          H=37 L=167 W=68.9 mm

and for the MSI, it doesn't say anything about power connectors, but I assume that's a no.

          Card size
          182 x 69 x 35 mm
this card seems a bit bigger because of extra fans.

Note that GTX 1050 Ti and normal GTX 1050 are two very different graphics cards. The Ti version is significantly faster and it has 4GB of memory. The non Ti variant only maxes out at 2GB.

        • The 1050 and 1050 Ti is the graphics chip, and the Ti is a better version of the chip.

What is different is you get different manufacturers (MSI, Gigabyte, ASUS etc) that all build their own full card for the graphics chip.
The price differences will be the differences between how each manufacturer builds their card. Different cooling solutions, different PCB, different overclocking, different pricing based on their own brand recognition and profit goals.
So you will get dozens of different cards that are all 1050's or 1050 Ti's, all with different prices.

        • Yes, there are 1050 LP and 1050Ti LP (OC/Non-OC). At the moment, MSI and Gigabyte are only two manufacturers making LP models.

Gigabyte 1050Ti model is OC, whereas MSI 1050Ti is non-OC (1442Mhz vs 1392Mhz boost clock). Again, there's very little performance difference between these two. Thus, just choose a cheaper one or your favourite brand or your favourite design (1 fan vs 2 fans / 2 HDMI vs 1 HDMI ports). They do not have much difference because they use a same chipset.

          Gigabyte 1050Ti : https://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/GV-N105TOC-4GL
          MSI 1050Ti : https://www.msi.com/Graphics-card/GeForce-GTX-1050-Ti-4GT-LP…

On the other hand, 1050 is a totally different chipset, which has significantly lower performance (thus, much cheaper).

        • @jjs: Thanks for the info.

Looking to get the gigabyte for the extra edge even though it might not mean much practically. However the 2 fans does look better for cooling. But the Optiplex SFF case has hardly any room left after inserting the 1050 in it so airflow is restricted anyway.

          hrmmmm

  • I got the Gigabyte 1050ti a month or two ago, and it fits in a 9010 SFF.

Not sure about overclocking, but the one you have called OC is the same as the one I got for ~$270 before 20% off.

    • Great thanks, I'll probably just settle for that one.

Does your video card box says OC on it???

      • Don't have it in front of me at the moment, but the picture of the box in the eBay listing from mine does. The UPC number for both is also the same.
