  I never understood this joke as a kid, and yet it was in every joke book for some reason.

    Thankfully today’s kids have google and can lookup ‘flunk’.
    But the delivery of the joke that is more important than the context (why I don’t get joke books)

      When I read this as a kid I always thought “flunk” was the sound of a handful of cashews being thrown down onto a wooden coffee table. I thought the professor was indicating that he wasn’t going to pass the nuts, he was going to grab a fistful and scatter them loudly.

      Kids fill in the blanks when they don’t understand something.
