    Stargate: Origins… what the…..?

    • +6

It's a prequel web series, (10 minute episodes). It's meant to tie in with the Movie and TV Series SG:1.
      Trailer is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Itqq9hzLapk

If it does well there is hope for more Stargate content in the future.

      • +1

        OMG OMGOMG OMG

        • +5

Yeah, don't get too excited. It's freaking horrible.

        • +1

@Dex: Spoiler alert much. Saw the first 3 eps. More like 0.5 of an episode. Should have made a short movie instead.

        • +1

          @Dex:
          I like it :)

      • FREE prequel web series..

        https://www.stargatecommand.co/

        • +1

To clarify, only the first 3 episodes are free. To see the rest you'll have to get an "all access pass"

This pass also entitles you to stream all the other stargate series (and movies?)… apparently this is the first time you can see SG-1 in 1080p too (though apparently it's just upscaled)

        • @Dex: Wow… What a stooge! And I have to install the app to see pricing! BAH.

        • +2

"To clarify, to see the rest you'll have to…"

          … learn to use peer-2-peer. ;-p

        • @GregMonarch: This may be how I watched the first 3 anyway.

      • "If it does well there is hope for more Stargate content in the future."

The idea is that a lot of interest from fans will get someone's attention, and they'll build something else in the SG universe.

My working theory is that they've intentionally made something so bad that the fans will revolt… because if they make something horrible it's going to get a lot more Internet chatter than something mediocore. After watching the first 3 episodes, I think they've achieved their goal.

Most of the fans defending the show are taking a stance around the budget… but they completely changed the 'voice' of the show. Lots of slapstick sort of stuff…

        • +1

I don't think MGM execs are that smart. There was probably a decent script and concept but the honchos insisted on all this childish crap to make it more "accessible", then they lobbed them with an unworkable budget and d-grade actors (all though old mate from Enterprise is alright) and told them it will be a web only series. Atlantis and Universe both got cancelled due to crappy ratings, I doubt they wanted to risk a significant investment on something which could flop.

SciFi did the same with the Battlestar Galactic prequel web series and it was a dud. This really sucks though, although not perfect the SG world is really awesome and there's so many creative places they can take it.

        • +1

          @chu-oh:

"SciFi did the same with the Battlestar Galactic prequel web series and it was a dud."

I thought you were talking about Caprica for a second, completely forgot about Blood and Chrome. Not sure if I ever even watched that. It was like right before "web series" became "streaming service series" and were accepted.

Which is another reason this is just a load of BS. Who makes a web mini series in the world of streaming original series? You pad the dialogue, introduce a mid-season side plot, do character back-story flashbacks… just borrow the Marvel Netflix formula and you've got a whole season built on a shoe-string budget with no challenge creative/writing.

What we really need here, is for MGM to sell the rights to Netflix, and let them go nuts with it. This has worked well for The Expanse, Altered Carbon and even Star Trek Discovery which, because of the Netflix deal, has been profitable since day 1. Mind you, if Netflix had more creative control on STD (heh), we might have had a better show.

Actually, not sure how much input they had into Expanse/Altered Carbon either (both based on scifi books), but that's kinda the point. Get the cash from Netflix, who are actually making sci-fi profitable, and use the money to make a decent series, which I don't think MGM has ever had an issue doing with the Stargate franchise

          Anyway, I digress.

Well, I watched it and what I saw was far from bad!? But with leftist agendas INFECTING everything including news and entertainment, this probably will suffer from that too - and therefore die an early death.

e.g. I haven't seen the latest Star Wars movie, but can't miss the massively-negative reviews of it - what with it's mindless feminist echo-chambered-propaganda… So much so, that someone thought it necessary to make a home-edited version, excising all that cancer, in mockery of it.

There's plenty of signs of that same metal illness in the 3 episodes of this. i.e. With only ten minutes in three episodes, they thought it necessary to tell us the guy in the red hat isn't into women. So he'll probably be the token homosexual, and the woman is being set up us a feminist while her boyfriend (trained in the army - carrying a gun) is cast as a clueless soy boy.

As is always the case with this agenda in the past, it doesn't gel with the previous series. So if they continue down that fork in the road, they can be guaranteed of 'alienating' (LOL), the majority of their fan base, and wind up with the same pitiful result of the latest Star WarTs movie.

Maybe they'll listen, learn, but fools like JJ Abrams show that isn't likely. (Him stating if you hate the latest leftist horse-pill shoved down your throat, you're a bigoted woman-hater. What a moron.)

        • -1

@GregMonarch: Well I watched the last 3 episodes of this last night. What a surprise that I was correct when I said:

"With only ten minutes in three episodes, they thought it necessary to tell us the guy in the red hat isn't into women. So he'll probably be the token homosexual, and the woman is being set up us a feminist while her boyfriend (trained in the army - carrying a gun) is cast as a clueless soy boy."

          • Guy in red hat = homosexual
          • Soy boy = dead
          • German leader about to shoot the non-German father & daughter. The German propaganda women shoots her superior instead. Because, you know - the German propaganda machine was so compassionate and never filmed thousands of jews shot/burned/gassed/buried alive. I think they were implying she shot him only partly because he was going to shoot the daughter, but mostly because he hated on her precious Führer. So that would have earned her instant death upon returning to the 3rd Reich after returning to Earth. This part of the plot was so weak and convulated, so it was obviously to make up for…
          • They didn't make the girl into full-on, bra-burning, beached-whale, raving feminist. (While soy boys are rarely choosy, he still had to be attracted to her for the one-night stand to take place.) So in any subsequent series they'd probably make her character bipolar - switching back and forth from normal well-adjusted woman to rabid leftist loon, taking every opportunity possible to nag men they're bad. I'm sure there's more left/feminist cancer to come if it turns into a series.

You always see the left's agenda in the first 10 minutes (if they can contain themselves that long). It makes everything they produce the same - like reading the last chapter of a book before the first. Everything they touch is boring, predictable, and cancerous.

      • What's Gene Simmons doing in a stargate trailer!?

    • +2

Yeah it's a hot steaming pile of garbage. Don't even bother.

  • +1

My all time fav show :) sad they dont make more

    • but they just did?

      • sad if they dont make more***

        • +1

          Any Stargate is fine.

        • +7

Say that again once you've watched SGO. I dare you.

  • +7

    Only in 480p max. LOL

    • -1

What a joke. Worse quality than DVD.

      • +1

dvds are 480i and only watchable on progressive displays after decinterlacing. Try plugging a DVD player into a computer monitor and you'll see what I mean. They also have about 4 lines of black or sometimes green pixels around the border of the video (because crts used to cut the edges off) so they need to be cropped to watch on the computer.
If one edge has for example, 8 lines of dead pixels and the other 3 have 4 lines, you need to crop off 8 on every side to maintain a consistent aspect ratio, losing some video data in the process.

So no, 480p is not worse than DVD

    • +3

My piratey skills found 1080…. sshhh

  • +3

After starting off with the movie when it came out, then moving on to SG-1 and spinoffs etc, watching the original movie now is painful. Usually it's the other way around but this movie is terrible. I'm just glad they changed the cast for SG-1, one of my favourite shows ever.

    • +7

I watched it again yesterday… I completely forgot James Spader played Daniel Jackson.

      James Spader… with hair!

      • Right?? I loved him in Boston Legal and Blacklist

    • The movie has a 7.1 rating on IMDb - hardly "terrible".

      • +2

Well, taking terrible out of context then no, I did like it when I first saw it, but compared the the following series is a different story.

      • -2

Yeah those are the same morons that have Black Panther at a perfect 10, too………….

    • +1

The Stargate movie has a great pinball machine, I loved it so much that I bought it.

      • +1

Does this mean I have to watch it again to spot this alleged pinball machine… Argh.

Loved SG-1, Atlantis was ok, Universe I stopped watching after mid season 1.

        • +1

I don't think he means IN the movie… I think he means OF the movie.

        • @GregMonarch: The pinball machine was a spin-off that came out at the same time as the movie.

  • +1

Anyone know what "a limited time" means here?

    • Sometime between now and when the Sun goes white dwarf in 4-5 billion years.

  • One of my favourite movies and TV series. Mind-blowing.

  • classical but maybe not very famous like starwars or startrek….

  • +1

youtube-dl if you want to keep it

    • Any user interface option for non-command line user?

    • Hmmm … youtube-dl is in daily use here but www.stargatecommand.co seems to be using an internal video player
so even after registering there's no URL for youtube-dl to "lock on" to ?

      Thoughts ?

    • +1

      Dude, it's just:
      youtube-dl <videourl>
My grandmother used to use this and she was scared of computers

  • +5

    The new webseries is terrible.

    • +1

Ugh watching it now, I hate these ham fisted prequel series. Why not just expand on something rather than trying to insert something in the backstory that has either been contradicted or never mentioned before in the show's universe?

Also how can you power a Stargate with a car when it needed a ridiculous amount of power in the other series?

    • +2

Thanks for the warning, saves me some MBs off the land of internet quotas.

  • Don't be fooled by this trickery! Once you click the Youtube link you'll see a still image and arrows pointing you to a URL below in the video description.

  • how is this a 'deal'? all content on YouTube is free to watch in the first place!?

    • +2

I think you've been living under a rock for the past few years son. Guessing you've never heard of Youtube Red and Youtube Movies now which you have to pay for?

  • Great find. As you can probably tell by my avatar I've already got this on DVD :p

  • has anyone ever read up about "Project Stargate"?

    • You mean 'project star gate'. (The occult dressed up as science.)

      • +1

Any relation to Pizza Gate ?

        • +1

Have to ask Barry and Big Mike.

      • Actually about 20mins into the 1994 movie (where Daniel is briefing General West and his staff)
on the wall there are references to "Project Ginza" ?

  • -5

In my opinion Stargate is one the worst movie ever made, but all Emmerich’s movie are awful

    • +4

With the exception of Universal Soldier of course. I actually prefer the Stargate movie over the series. Haha.

      • +1

Well the movie lead to the TV series. Best. Tv Series. Ever!

  • This movie is available to stream on both Netflix and Stan.

  • There's a Stargate mini web series? How did that happen without me noticing.

I still have a signed poster of Amanda Tapping above my bed. Also, why does Hollywood keep trying to bring back the movie instead of the tv show?

  • Bring back SG1 or even Atlantis or Universe to a lesser extent
