Limewash Damage to Rendered Walls, Builder/Painter Responsible?

Dear builders and painters of Ozbargain, looking for your professional opinion on this: https://prnt.sc/ieyl5y

Our building is covered in white marks after a winter of rain. The builder claims: "It's limeburn which can occur after darker colour paint mixes with water and wind damage damage over time." and he doesn't deem this to be a building issue.

The building is 3 years old. Is it unreasonable to expect the paint to last longer? Did the painter cut corners by not applying a lime block coating to the render first? (http://www.resene.com.au/homeown/problem-solver/lime_burn.ht… )

Interested to hear your opinion :)

Get a gerny and wash it off

What was the work guaranteed for, if its longer than 3 years, then tell them you want it fixed or you will take them to fair trading. What caused the issue is irrelevant, its not your problem.

    • It's a 3 year old building (strata property), I'm pretty sure the WA building code comes with more than 3 years warranty on new buildings.

Looks like the builder didn't properly cure the render. They tend to rush it through to get it completed & move scaffolding. Costly to fix i'd imagine so you'll have to fight this one.

    • I've been told at least a couple of months between render and undercoat is best to play it safe.

      • They definitely didn't wait 3 months
