Made a Trade on Gumtree

I recently made a trade with someone from Gumtree swapping a working PC for a working motherboard and CPU.

Turns out the motherboard he gave me was faulty. I have breadboarded it, tried shorting the powersw pins. The motherboard can get power form the PSU but will not boot. No fans will spin at all and no display output

I know where he lives. He is a kid (year 11) and I am pretty sure his parents have no idea he made the trade and wouldn't allow him.

The question i have is, how should i go about this? Should i go up to his house and talk to his parents? I was told it works and have proof.

  Who's to say you didn't damage the board? You take on inherent risks when trading on Gumtree. Take it as a loss.

  Use a multimeter to check for shorts you may have introduced when handling it. It could also mean that the CPU is not supported or the current BIOS version doesn't have support for it either. Same with the Ram. You can also try clearing the CMOS.

  You can't do anything now unless you can get the kid to somehow undo the trade.

  Impersonate someone and contact him again on Gumtree with a better deal or something so that he contacts you to get his stuff back and you know the rest I'm sure.

  Just a creative way of cheating the cheater.

      Contact him saying that you're from the authority and you're looking for a stolen laptop and that you suspect he has it. He'll probably try to return it then.

  on Gumtree - only buy items that you can confirm is functional on the spot and only trade in cash and pickup.

  There's a reason PayPal has stopped buyer protection on gumtree.. After the sale you've got nothing. You can't even give negative feedback.
