Citibank Balance Transfer - How to get offer?

Back in 2016 I first applied for a Citibank Platinum CC with a BT offer. Anyone familiar with this knows that Citibank send a "cheque to self", for up to 80% of the credit limit.

This worked fine, and I later paid it back just before the annual fee was due. I called to cancel the card (so I didn't need to pay the annual fee), but was persuaded to instead switch my credit card from the "Platinum" version to the "Simplicity" version, which has no annual fee,

I would now like another BT offer, however when I log into the Citibank portal, the "My Offers" section shows nothing is available. Further, when I called them asking about a BT offer, their response was that it will show up in the "My Offers" section when available.

My question is - does anybody know how I would go about in taking up another BT offer with Citibank on my existing card? Is it because it's the lower end "Simplicity" card that they aren't offering it?

Call Citibank and confirm these details - ask them if it does not appear online, does that mean there are no balance transfer deals available? If they have nothing to offer you than change to a different bank who does have a deal going. Loyalty means nothing these days!

    • hardly any other banks offer 'cheque to self' bt

    • Thanks mate.

That's basically what they confirmed on the phone - there's no BT offer unless you can see one online (in the "My Offers" section).

Maybe I should try cancel my card, and ask for a BT offer to convince me to stay.

      Cheers!

  • They told me the other day the current offer was 12% on my total. 12% isn't attractive I didn't want it anyway, i doubt you can get a 0% offer.

Your better off applying for another credit company for a big creditcard like ~20k on a balance transfer that to your citibank, putting it in credit then transfer it to an everyday account.

    • I'm not talking about a BT in the sense of transferring my Citibank CC balance to another card.

I just want to essentially have Citibank loan me 80% of my credit limit, at 0% for X months.

I've already done what you're talking about in your second sentence a few times with ANZ and NAB, which was a very easy process (just called and asked for a BT offer). I transferred the cash to my 28 degrees card, and they just EFT-ed me the credit balance to my bank account.

      • call them ask for 0% and if you do get it let me know.

I called citi last time, as others mentioned in the post already, nothing offered.

However I recently applied for the High Flyer Virgin card (which is run by Citibank), I initiated a BT with them, and got check to self a week later in the mail. :)

    • I was looking at this card, but can't see it being offered first-year-annual-fee-free. Did you get it with the first year annual fee waived?

No, didn't first annual fee waved but gladly paid $289 for the 120k VFF.

However with the current promo of only 80k VFF for the high flyer, it's better to get the Flyer with 60k as annual feel is halved.

I made a small mistake in getting an extra card for my wife, which has a charge. Should have just got it for myself as using card to churn for bonus points.

Ah, thanks for that. I was looking around for a no annual fee card with a 0% BT offer (to park some cash in the offset while saving for wedding).

I ended up applying (just now) for the Woolworths Everyday Platinum card, and hopefully once approval comes will do a BT.

I can't see if Citibank is doing a CTS still so had to go to this option!
