Are Banks Done with Waiving The Annual Fee for Credit Cards?

Hi guys

I tend to get 2-3 cards a year for the points, but I've noticed that all the deals of late include the annual fee (except for ANZ which I've already had).

Just wondering if this is a trend. I've also noticed banks are putting in 18 month rules to be noticed as a new customer.

I did have a bit of a search to try and find anything similar but it didn't come up, apologies if this has been covered. Just a dude looking for a point or two for the fam holiday!

As a points chaser then you'd also realise the number of points being earned from regular spend has been steadily decreasing since last year - I believe if you're noticing a lack of fee free deals this would just be a function of the same interchange fee changes.

    • Yeah I've noticed that, and the banks dropping AMEX as well. To be honest that hasn't bothered me so much, I make almost all of my points off the signup fees.
As a schoolteacher the points are great as I don't catch most sales for school holidays and I can snipe seats in peak periods which are cancelable/changeable. I've been through most of the banks one time around so I'd have to say I've had my fair share. Was good while it lasted…
