Has anybody found some good tips besides the obvious (air conditioner, use the coolest rooms, fan if possible, lower settings down - aka throttle your machine for longevity don't push it to its limits)

Spending more time back at my grandparents place need some ideas for keeping my laptop cool during hot weather.

    Just using tablet for now.

    SOUNDS EXTREME

I use my work laptop outside in the sun in summer, its fine, i don't see why people worry.

    • Previous laptop died to heat so kid of tainted by that one experience.. I know.

Usually I'm a pretty bad ass dirt hog when it comes to electronics but the current heat is really really pushing it for survivability.

  • I watercool my gaming computer. I watercool my wife's one too. Media server sits in the garage in 40+ heat and runs just fine, and will ironically probably last longer due to the possibility of a leak on the gaming pc's.

The biggest tip is to keep your PC / laptop clean, especially around the heat sinks. If it dies in normal operation on a normal Australian summer's day, then there's a different fault with it..

yeah, I'm worried about my desk top in 40 degree days.

monitors CPU core temp continually running at 60 degrees.

    • 60 Degrees??? Danger to the manifold!!

Get a can of compressed air, spray dust out of cooling vents

    • Used to look after a fleet of laptops. Hair melted around cooling fans was the biggest heat issue.

That and laptops should net be used on laps!. Use a stabletable or breadboard if you must. Do not block the vents!

As far as desktops, clean out the dust, cobwebs!
