Buy 7 Seater Luxury SUV ($100k budget)

Hi all,
I am planning to buy seven seater luxury SUV. Test drove BMW X5 and really liked it. Did not like the shape of Mercedes GLX. Same with Audiq7. Almost bought it but heard the rumours that new model is coming soon. Do you think it’s worth waiting but again hard to say how long will be the wait.
Any other car to consider? Budget is 100k.

The X5 is due to be replaced and is a decent car, but there are better cars. You really need to increase your budget to $110k for an X5, $100k won't get you a 3.0D with decent kit.

Personally for $100k I'd be getting the new Land Rover Discovery. If I was getting a 7 seat SUV, I'd stretch to $150k if I could and get a Tesla Model X.

There is no such car as the Mercedes GLX. There is a GLC, GLE and GLS. The GLS is a class above the X5, but priced reasonably close to it (about $140k) for a decent one.

BMW X5 is nice, design will age well and I think you have gone in the right direction.
Have you also looked at the Volvo XC90 D5 R-Design. I have one myself and I can tell you its a pleasure you drive and one of the safest SUVs out there.
Do you care about the badge that much? If you do BMW X5 is the way to go.
Before I got XC90 I also looked at many other cars including Lexus RX and Infiniti QX70 and both were also very nice, high quality indeed. However the striking design of the XC90 got the best of me and I brought it straight away.
    XC90 D5 R-Design was around 103k for me.
Make sure to check out the Mercedes Benz GLC43 AMG as well as it costs around 110k demo and is performance orientated. However the body is smaller similar to BMW X3 size if you're okay with that!

      +1 for XC90 ( wish i cud afford it)

      • Another vote for the XC90 or get a previous gen discovery. The new gen is UGLY

  • You should look at LandRover and Volvo XC90 (though may be over your budget), typically have better quality interiors and features for the money than the German cars — style is personal taste, (personally I think BMW X series is very bland and Americanized now and the interiors are very plasticy).

$100K will not get you all the bells and whistles so better of buying top of the line Mazda CX9 and banking the $40K difference

  • Checkout the Volvo XC90

  • Just curious, what’s been happening with the luxury SUVs of yesteryear? Have they held their value or is it too early to tell?

    • Of course they haven’t. As soon as you drive one of these away they lose 40%
