Yes that’s including that
location/state?
imo, there is no need for machining.. rotors replacement is the way to go.
It’s groupon deal
So just buying that
That's like asking how long is a piece of string. What car? And that's if it is possible to machine the rotors.
Personally I'm of the belief that machining rotors is a waste of money. New discs all the way.
yeah this
machining is a scam
be that as it may, $220 is an amazing price because you're paying for two sets of pads PLUS labour and its only $220???
decent pads are usually $100 a pair at least
machining is a scam
Care to elaborate? I’m curious…
nothing wrong with machining rotors, only euro cars require replacement straight up as they use a softer steel = better braking so they wear out quicker… Most Jap cars can be surface skimmed 1 or 2 times depending on the state of ur rotors ie. if u wear the pads metal 2 metal or fry ur brakes going down some steep ass hills, then yeah, they might b rooted then…
But the problem is that the mechanics aren't using $100/set pads. Most like $30/set no name brands.
I have a simple VY V6 Commodore, I do my own service work, including brakes. I used DBA T2 for discs and A1RM pads. Whereas one of my friends also had the same car and the mechanic did her brakes. When I drove her car, I felt like I did a leg workout pushing the brakes, and when she drove my car we almost headbutted the dash a few times.
Whereas my brakes have a nice linear feel to them, her's were like, pushing, pushing, pushing, there's the brakes.
Also with a VY Commodore, where mechanics charge about $40/disc to machine them, I can buy brand new RDA discs for the same price. But Commodore parts are cheap.
I'm coming from std. jap or aus. non performance cars but you're better off non bothering with machining and just replacing the rotors once you're put in 2 or 3 sets of pads.
Rotors for most common cars are $100? So why bother machining?
I make no comment on performance or euro cars, caveat emptor ie. you wouldnt be here asking
Also my experience with lower end pads and discs hasnt been too bad.
I replaced really good slotted rotors with common rotors like rba dba wtf and ordinary $50 pads and everything seemed to be fine.
If you're not getting enough braking force its normally a brake fluid master cyl. flushing issue and not actually brake pad or rotors but that's my experience on the performance end (ie. turbo or v8 cars).
I wouldn't go cheap on brakes. They are such an important safety feature.
Make sure you know what you're getting is good quality and done properly.
IMHO, Groupon deals and mechanics just don't mix. They're designed to draw you through the door so that they can tell you that your headlight fluid and lots of other things need replacing for lots of additional $$$.
cheap brakes are a softer material so your rotors last longer. It's a catch 22, what works out cheaper.
cheap brakes are a softer material so your rotors last longer
That would be true to a certain extent, but like all things that are made cheaply, there's no consistency between the manufacturers. The compounds are going to be different and how well they work with OP's driving style, heat, rotors, mileage is something that won't be known until it's installed and driven with.
I wouldn't buy mechanical repairs on Groupon.

yolo i guess
I wouldn't say its all that cheap really, i do my own brakes & pads all round (front & rear) are approx ~$80 depending on type of car etc…
So $140 labour for about 30mins work. Totally up to you.. Im sure the local mechanic would be pretty much the same cost though…
this isnt OzMechanics
No, but it is the Automotive forum of OzBargain.
