Extended Battery for LG V20?

Hey guys. Overall I'm pretty happy with my LG V20 except for its battery life.

Mostly this hasn't affected me as I have a xiaomi power bank and a QC 3.0 charger in the car but sometimes I'm away from both and it is a problem. So I'd like to get a ZeroLemon or equivalent (read: quality) extended battery to solve this problem. I'm completely fine with the phone being chunky as a result.

Being unable to import is a real barrier. I've heard some sellers on Amazon do allow it but I've not found them.

Any suggests welcome.

  • I kept an eye on LG V20 so I received an alert for this post.

Like most phones you have to adjust some of the factory settings in order to have good battery life. I contributed most of these savings by turning off the secondary screen when the phone is locked; and disabled double tapping the screen to turn it on when locked. So far I have extended the stand by time by a third or more.

My biggest problems though, are the stuttering Bluetooth, no physical on/off button on the side and the rear fingerprint/on/off button at the back. Hard to turn on the phone when mounted on a car and I almost drop the phone when pressing the button at the back. Otherwise it seems a good mid-range phone.

    • Thanks, I have implemented battery savings but didn't realise you could disable the second screen when locked, I'll do that now. I do use the phone in a gimbal which wouldn't work with an extended battery so I'd have to swap back when doing that. But unless my next round of battery saving efforts nets a big result I think I'll still be looking for a bigger battery. Not necessarily 10,000mAh but at least >5,000.

In the meantime I'll follow your suggestion above.

      • Do you turn off location, wifi, bluetooth, nfc etc… when not needed?

        • Personally I do not.

      • Highly recommend the AccuBattery app in the Play Store. It has 1 million downloads and a 4.7 rating. It tells your per-app battery usage, charging/discharging stats, battery wear etc. I never charge my battery to 100% and it will alert you when your charging reaches 80%. But this is rather personal as I don't have out of battery issues.

Go on, highly recommended as it may tell you something you didn't know, perhaps an app that is preventing the phone from deep sleeping.

  • what about replacement battery? just swap when needed.

    • Yeah I've thought about that but sounds fiddly / annoying if doing it too often. It's an improvement on what I have now though.

      • Hmm, that sounds like a great idea. A 5200 external battery will really only give you 1 full charge anyway, with quite a big footprint. A fully charged original battery is much smaller and lighter.

If I had that phone Id go for a spare battery to carry around instead of a battery pack!

  • I'd like to second getting a second battery, a lot like this:
    https://m.ebay.com.au/itm/173138313838

I've seen them go as low as $40.

I've got 3 batteries in total my self, means there is always at least 1 battery that is fully charged!
I don't even charge my phone anymore, swap swap swap.
Used to think it will be annoying but once you get used to it, it is quite nice. There is nothing like the feeling that you never have to look at the battery level, when ever it complains it is at 5% I will just swap.

Also I didn't know the second screen and double tap to wake use that much power, on G2 and G4 double tap to wake or knock code really had no effect on battery life, so if it really makes that much of a difference it is a step in the wrong direction for LG.
I find the most power hungry element is sadly the phone idle as I usually have low reception in my area. I tried turning the second screen off over night and it only made 1-2% difference for the whole drop, while when I turn off data and WiFi it improves it by a bunch.

Also lately am using this app called Naptime which has improved standby time dramatically, by basically forcing the phone to doze mode as soon as the screen is off and ignores the movement of the phone. The downside is that it will delay notifications a bit.

    • Interestingly I was looking at that exact deal before seeing your reply. Yeah maybe that's the way to go. Between that and my external power bank I'd be pretty well covered for any situation wouldn't I. Hmm..

      • If you get 3 batteries (1 from phone, 1 from that pack, 1 extra) you'd be hard pressed to need a recharge for 2 or 3 days.

      • You can pick up original batteries around 20-25 dollar

        • Went around my town today looking for batteries. Was quoted 60 a piece for generics. Am now looking online and seeing how much they would have ripped me off.

  • +1
