Xiaomi Thermostat - Noob Questions

I've just purchased a Xiaomi Thermostat (https://www.gearbest.com/robot-vacuum-accessories/pp_1306883…)

Currently do not have the BLE to WiFI bridge yet.

Before I spend $50+ on the bridge, I wanted to know:

1 - Once I have purchased the bridge, will the history of temp/humidity become available within the Mi App? Currently connecting phone direct to thermostat I can see current values only, no hint of history.

2 - Assuming answer to question 1 above is yes, is it possible to export the historical data to CSV / excel etc.?

3 - What frequency is the historical data available for? E.g. A reading every 15 minutes perhaps?

4 - How long is the historical data kept for? E.g. Previous 24 hours only? 48 hours? 7 days?

5 - Does the app provide ability to see the min/max temp for previous days, or is it simply a graph and you must scroll through by yourself?

6 - Why are Xiaomi going BLE instead of ZigBee? Is BLE the way of the future for Xiaomi? $50 for a gate way seems a lot…

Cheers.

Fri=om one of the comments on the page you linked

    Cons:
no logging (only current measurements can be receive via Bluetooth)
nervous display refresh rate (twice per second)
    no sensor smoothing
LCD background could be brighter (no back-light needed)

I assume that will be a no!

    • I assume (hope) that review you've referenced is for direct Bluetooth to phone connection, which is what I'm experiencing now.

I've seen video reviews plus product images (see link below) which show a graph with history of temp/humidity, and assume this functionality becomes available when connected to the bridge… (because then the logging occurs "in the cloud", I guess).

      The bottom half of the image shows (a bit of) this;

Does anyone have the thermostat + bridge and can comment?

Yes it does log history on the mi home app. it can be viewed in day / week / month range. Don't see a way to export natively from the app.

I have it setup bridged through the mijia bedside lamp for wifi access.

    • Excellent, thank you @harveybunnings!

I assume the bedside lamp is currently the only bridge available? Seems a bit overkill to me!

  • Can these replace any old thermostat? Can I wire it myself?

Despite the name, it's not actually the type of thermostat that connects to an air conditioner or heater. It's just a fancy thermometer/hygrometer/barometer with an LCD and Bluetooth.

      • Is there something that does connect to a central heating unit with remote/wifi access?

        • There's the Xiaomi Mi Home Air Conditioner Companion which is basically just like the normal gateway, except it has a built-in outlet so it can turn whatever is plugged into it on/off. It's meant to be used with "dumb" devices like an airconditioner, but if you have a dumb heater it could probably work with that as well. It doesn't have a temp/humidity sensor built into it, so you'd have to use it in tandem with one.

Of course, if you already have a gateway, temp sensor, and smart outlet, you can achieve the same sort of result.
