Out of Stock Deals Show The Coupon Code Crossed out

To me this doesn't make sense and leaves the user unsure if the coupon (such as a big ebay 20 code) has been shut down early.

Just a small suggestion.

    huh?
it says expired once its finished.

    expire
past tense: expired; past participle: expired
    1.
(of a document, authorization, or agreement) come to the end of the period of validity.

Some codes like the ebay 20 off's apply across many seperate posts, which may expire/sell out all stock before the original 20 off code expires officially.

The original 20 off code post would be correctly crossed out, if it expires.

      Hope this makes sense.

Huh? Generally individual eBay 20% off deals refer to the original 20% off sale post at the end of the description. Just click on it to see whether the whole sale is still going or not…

  • I am primarily referring to just browsing through the main page. The deal could be expired but the code isn't, yet the code is crossed out.

If the item isn't in stock anymore, you aren't going to get to the point where you input the code - So I don't think it would be misleading to keep the code unaltered in the expired deals.

As i said, it is just a small suggestion to prevent users having to do further clicking/ searching to confirm code it still active.

  • I am pretty certain this is a front page bug, because if you click on the particular "out of stock" deal (which shows the code crossed out on the main page), when you enter the deal page, the code is not crossed out.

    • That deal has expired (Out of Stock), but the content linked to the original deal of the coupon code, which does not have the coupon code crossed out. Crossing out the coupon code applies to the "context" which is that specific out-of-stock deal. This behaviour also applies to coupon code deals that are not related to specific product.

Thus we won't make any change.

      • @scotty I can't actually understand your response as a conclusion to the issue, but I think I probably have not explained it well.

        I wish I could upload a photo..

conclusion : front page shows a discrepancy to the formatting displayed in the actual deal pages. Front page deal display is a misleading discrepancy to the formatting used elsewhere for outofstock deals. .

      • Could you add the option to downvote mods, please. I'd really like to downvote that comment, since it knocks down a fairly reasonable suggestion without bothering to add "at this time".

Yeah doesn't make sense to me either to design it this way. I noticed this before and thought it was odd. If code is crossed out it intuitively means the code cannot be used any more but that's not necessarily the case. It's not immediately obvious when you are scanning deals if it's an expired code or not. Changing how the site deals with codes would help.

I don't see what the logic is to cross out a valid coupon code when the deal has already been marked out of stock or expired and the text is greyed out. If you use the same logic then all the text in the deal post should be crossed out as well.

leaves the user unsure if the coupon (such as a big ebay 20 code) has been shut down early.

You can always check the main deal (ie. the eBay 20% code) or surrounding active deals which provide context of the main deal status.

    • Yeah I just find it annoying a couple of times I've been triggered into doing this check when I knew the code should still be valid for a few more days.
