Have been researching whether to get double edged safety razors or stick with Mach 3 Turbo recently and came across this price. Seems like a better offer than ebay or the likes of Woolies, Shavershop etc.

Works out to $1.92 per razor. Note: As a point of comparison they are on sale at woolies this week for $21.50 for 8 ($2.69 ea) so the BigW deal seems pretty decent.

Also works with coupon code for $10 off $100 spend: HNY18 as posted here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/352352 now in-store only

Fusion (5 blades) also available for $2.27/cartridge. Cheap! These are usually around $4 each.

    • $2.27 is excellent. I usually buy 12 for the year from Amazon - worked out to $2.85 each incl. delivery.

      • Amazon Australia is a very recent option. Which Amazon did you buy it from earlier 'usually'?

        • +1

          You ANALyse far too much

        • +1

@Suspect420: Truth lies in ANALysis, mate.

        • USA. Usually buy around December when a special offer is flagged on Slickdeals. I'm not sure what to think of Amazon Aus - nothing like USA.

        • @Iangh: That's very true. Fingers crossed. Hope Amazon Australia improves in terms of deal quality and variety of products being sold.

Do you get free shipping from Amazon USA?

        • @virhlpool:

          Order Summary
          Item(s) Subtotal: $27.32
          Shipping & Handling: $5.77
          Your Coupon Savings: -$6.00
          Total before tax: $27.09
Estimated tax to be collected: $0.00
          Grand Total: $27.09

        • @Iangh: How did you get the $6 coupon?

        • @fredblogs:

It was on the page to be clicked. Enable it and you get the coupon. Slickdeals is very good at letting you know they are there. I wonder how many people buy without enabling the coupon?

    • Must have just missed it, says it’s not available to purchase online

    • Wow amazing deal, spent almost $40 on a 12 pack of fusion last week. Damn.

    • Looks like that's only available online, not in store?

whether to get double edged safety razors or stick with Mach 3 Turbo

    Go for option 1

  • How long would one cartridge last you? I get the BIC 2 blade disposable ones and they will last me a few shaves.

    • +13

Can't blame you. You're covered in fur.

    • +1

Mach ones last me a solid 2 Months with 1-2 shaves a week

      • Mach ones last me a solid 2 Months with 1-2 shaves a week

What about the Mach Three blades?

        • Sorry meant Mach 3

Just get the 16 pack of twin blade disposables from Aldi for $4 or something.

The quality is good, what more do you want?

    • +1

I buy 100de blades for $10? Using Derby's atm, they are good.

      • Where from and what is DE?

        • Double edge razor. And you buy the razor (a cheapy will do to start but a merkur ect once you learn technique offers a better feel/cut) and blade seperate.

          I bought off eBay :)

        • @Slippery Fish:

Whoa, I stopped using them maybe in the 1970s and have been twin blade ever since.

With DE I kept getting cut and nicked.

        • @SamR: lol I use closed comb. They are very safe :)

    • +5

Fine for bum fluff Or your missus bush….but really?

      • You must have a very heavy beard.

I shave daily or it is very noticeable but I can't grow a heavy beard.

So horses for courses, Aldi works great for me.

        • Yes. Anything but Mach 3, Mach 4 or Schick Hydro 5 is unusable.

    • +2

I found the Aldi 4-blade or 5-blade or whatever they were, pretty poor. Didn't bother trying the 2.

I guess everyone has a different requirement for shaving - some get away with 1-2 shaves per week, others 1-2 per day.

I get a decent shave from DE safety razors but my technique sucks.

  • Is this same stock from Asia? Because there’s a difference in quality with the ones you get from Coles/Woolies and the ones from overseas.

The local stuff lasts much longer.

    • +1

It says on the back of the pack 'Made in Germany'.

      • It says on the back of the pack 'Made in Germany'.

Is that for the blades as well? At Woolies, Coles and chemist warehouse the packs have the handle made in Germany but the blade in Vietnam.

I'll go in the morning and buy in bulk if these are German made!

Edit: the link has made in Germany on the back of the pack. Ordered!

  • Grabbed 1. Thanks OP.

  • The local blades are now made in Vietnam but they still charge us full price and throw in hepatitis as a bonus.

Both Schick and Gillette now sell blades made in Asia in pretty much all their products quietly dropping the German made blades and charging us the same for inferior products. I'm topping up later this year in Germany but don't have enough blades to get me through and I'm not changing from the Mach 3 Turbo unless I can find a German or US made one that works with my skin as well.

    • when did this happen because I've been using Gillette for 10 years. One day in the last 6 months I picked up the blade & I knew straight away that they had changed the product. The metal was not the quality it used to be and it was lighter & the shave was not as good but still better than disposals. I have gotten used to it but I remember when I noticed the difference

      • In the last probably six months, I noticed it at the supermarkets and now the chemists etc are the same so I would say they started rolling this in quietly over the last six months. This stock that is being sold off cheap is probably because the German blades are no longer sold in Australia so they're being cleared out. They're not a lot cheaper in Germany as I never find them on special when I'm there but I'll make it a point this time to load up on them, I might even bring some back to resell if I can get them cheap enough.

Maybe it would be a different story if they dropped the price by 50%+ to reflect their substantially lower price from making them in places that are not known for quality but they have decided to rip us off by selling second or third rate blades that may well be unsafe if they're contaminated and you cut yourself.

  • Is this the one that uses the AAA battery?

    • No battery. Not the vibrating power version.

    • Why does everyone want vibrating ones lol

      • It's rubbish I have the battery one and haven't replaced the battery in 5 years lol

  • We're sorry. This item is not currently available to purchase online. Sydney?

  • Is this available in-store too or just online only?

    • +1

Some stores only. Many BigW only stock the smaller packs.

      • Thank you.

  • Don't forget ewish gift card 5% off from cashrewards! Should work at BigW.

  • I recently bought the Gillette 2 blade razor. Gives me a better shave

  • Looks like it's now sold out for online ordering and pickup only depending on stock in store. Marking as expired.

  • +1

lol at the people who claim value when they only shave 1 or 2 times a week. If I did that I'd be shaving a thick beard off everytime and destroying a cartridge in the process.

I got 2 packs from Robina, Big W they priced as normal recommended retail price, when scanned it shows the cheaper price. There were at least another 10 packs left. Good luck.

showing "We're sorry. This item is not currently available to purchase online." for me

      • yeah I'm getting that for Melb CBD and some suburbs too :(

  • Great first post OP!

Checked calamvale but I don't think they even had any stock to begin with lol

  • In store now … no such product can be found anywhere. Nor the special price fusion kit. There isn't even a spot amongst the razors it might be.

    • Only selected stores seem to stock the big packs. Melb QV doesn't have it, i checked yesterday. You can check on their web site if any stores in your area have stock.

  • A few of these and the Fusion packs at Taigum, labelled with the normal price but they scan at $25.

I placed the order yesterday when it was showing in stock for local pick up. This morning got this email:

"Unfortunately we are unable to supply the below items in your recent order.

We apologise for the inconvenience caused. Your refund is expected to appear in your nominated payment option within 3-5 working days, depending on your financial institution."

  • anyway to avoid $9.90 shipping fee ?

  • 3 packs mach 3 left at Top Ryde. Marked full price but scanning at 25
