@altomic: Sorry didn't notice your location.
If none of the options stuhb provided below suits, you can pick up a refurb from Apple for $399 (gold only at the moment).
          https://www.apple.com/au/shop/product/FPGT2X/A/Refurbished-i…

I got a refurb iPad from them once and wouldn't be able to know except from the box saying refurbished on it.

        • @unco: all good. thanks for your assistance.

  • IOS 11 released September 2017. Are there any apps that ONLY run in IOS 11?

    • yes, and the school requires a couple of the programs - my daughters teacher was explaining it at me this morning.

      • you mind pre-owned? Gumtree, cash converters, salvos, etc …

    • Yes, older apps and some older IOS versions are no longer supported

      • I didn't mean to be rude or question anything. But being a father of 2yo daughter, and a software developer myself, I am kinda interested to know is it really impossible to run the needed apps on ios 10, or it's just the school can't be bothered to solve problems that might occurred.

I just found a snippet of iPad program in SA school:

I ALREADY HAVE AN OLD IPAD, CAN MY CHILD USE IT AT SCHOOL?
With the release of iOS 11 (mobile operating system) some iPads are no longer compatible with current apps. Please make sure >the old iPad your child is using is loaded with iOS 11 or above to ensure all school apps will run. To check iOS version: >Settings > General > Software Update

Further investigation from IOS 11 releases says that some old 32 bit programs will not be able to run on IOS 11. I can totally understand this part.

However, if the app was developed prior to IOS 11, it should still be able to run on ipad running IOS 10. If the app is newly develop (which I doubt so, as I understand the usual software development life-cycle is longer than 3 months), having the app not backward compatible with IOS 10, is abnormal. I would not hire that software developer.

        • It would depend on whether the app required APIs only available in iOS11. For example, what if the school wanted to use an app that used ARKit or the Vision framework? I can easily see use-cases for these types of apps in an educational environment.

  • How much would you ideally like to spend? Is $400 way too much? Buy for $499 from Ausluck on eBay and use the 20% off promo code = $399.20

    Not sure which storage option you're after, however I'll list the options you have for the 32GB variant;

    1. Currently $397 @ OW. Shipping should still be free as it's over $55. Was $377.15 on their eBay store with the code PICK5, however that is out of stock for now. They may re-list it on their eBay store, so keep an eye out for that.

    2. You can try price matching OW's $397 at JB and pay with discounted gift cards. Purchase a $400 Woolies eGift card at 5% off via CR, then purchase $400 worth of JB gift cards (e.g 4 X $100) with the eGift card. Total should be $380 if they match the price.

    3. Purchase a discounted $429 Woolies eGift card as Big W are selling this for $439. Use the code HNY18 at the checkout to bring the price down to $429. Pay using your discounted gift card and the total should be $407.55 you have paid for this method.

There are probably better options available, (e.g. Kogan $50 off $120 voucher method) however there aren't many options for local stock (for now).

    • unless something pops up in the next few hours then Ill settle on the cheapest of these options. cheers
