Borders - 60% off DVD box sets (excl BBC and black stickered ones)

340

Borders Canberra today had 60% off its DVD box sets. Seemed like it was the first day as the staff said they only found out about it today as well. I'm guessing it's because they're moving their CD and DVD sales to the online store only and this is a clearance.

With the $20 VIP gift voucher, it makes for some excellent deals (eg The Pacific for $12, a stand up comedy box set for free).

Didn't take photos of the sign today as I was in a rush, but I can do that tomorrow if people want.

  • Is it only for DVD boxsets? Does it apply for blu-ray boxsets too?

    • Someone I know who works there says blu-ray is included.

  • Is this all stores? Anyone spotted this anywhere else?

    • Saw this sale at Highpoint ViC store, so I'm guessing it must be national? Also had selected DVD's from $10 too.. Not sure how many of those were $10 though..

  • Somone in another post here yesterday mentioned all Blu-ray $10 @ boarders Macquare Centre North Ryde. Anybody confirm this?

  • i went yesterday borders at knox and chadstone $10 all blurays and dvds, under 3 discs excluding boxsets and bbc got 12 blurays at $10 :)

  • Yep, it's at South Yarra too. Although there was not many TV box sets left that I was interested in. There was heaps on Dr Who, monarc of the glen, etc. Didn't notice many $10 stickers?

  • Just called highpoint store and they said Blu-Ray are included in the sale, except for black sticker items

  • Looks like the $20 VIP gift voucher for new VIP memberships is not offered anymore….or am I looking in the wrong place?

    • Seems to be gone!

      • Yep, they canceled the deal last night at midnight. $20 credit expires on Sunday if you still have it.

        • Expires on Sunday? I thought it was one month from sign-up?

        • From their Facebook page on Thursday:
Borders Australia: Last day! Sign up to Borders v.i.p before midnight to get $20 voucher. You then have until Sunday to go in store and get it activated. Do it now!
          Thursday at 16:08

        • Hmm…I would presume there is a difference between "activating" your card and the expiration of the $20 credit though.

If you sign up to Borders vip on the web, you still need to go to a store to get a card, I think, hence the "activating" your card in-store.

Why didn't people post the $10 deal yesterday! Would have made a trip this morning! Good stuff probably gone!

    • sorry i was out all day, i though some would have put it up :(

  • All Blu-ray's are $10 each at the Adelaide CBD store.

Grabbed a whole bunch - still plenty left.

  • any standouts?

  • I was at the Robina Borders today, picked up my VIP card with $20 on it and i got Marley and Me blu-ray ($10) and the Ice Age box set was $24.95 with 60% off down to $9.98. So that was my VIP credit Spent well….

  • WA CBD has kinda been cleaned out… they said this promo has been going all week.

Just crappy Agatha Christie box sets left.

  • Good deal. Was at Adelaide CBD Borders at lunch and picked up Avatar and RockNRolla for $10. Not much else there though (probably around 30 or so Blurays) - didn't look at dvds/box sets.

As others have said used VIP Card $20 (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/34003) free credit so got these two for free.

  • Picked up "Family Guy: Something, Something, Something Darkside" for $10 (down from $73)
Also because they manually have to put the discounted prices in the lady accidentally put $1 instead of $10 for Hitman on blu-ray…score! :D

Hornsby store has been pillaged by Ozbargainers - sweet FA left of decent box sets.

  • Grabbed;

    -SAW
    -Borat

    $10 each

  • Went to chatswood and they are not doing a Blu-Ray deal only DVD's $10 each and 60% off boxsets, still quite a bit left there

    • Chatswood is doing blu-rays, they're in a nook at one end of the DVD aisles.

  • I was just at Rouse Hill and picked up Summer Heights High / We Can Be Heroes box set for $27 which I then received my $20 discount and paid $7, very happy

  • Melbourne Central had nothing left that interested me although I did spend my $20 credit on 5 rolls of Christmas wrapping paper (all Christmas cards, wrap, tags etc. were half price!) so Im happy with that!

  • Went to Macarthur Square Campbelltown one, and picked up quite a bit.

    DVD
    *American Dad Volume 5 - $18
*Casino Royale Collectors Edition - $12
*Around the Twist Complete Collection - $24.98

    Blu-Ray (All $10)
    *Life of Brian
    *Borat
    *Bruno
    *District 9
*Rolling Stones live at the MAX
    *Home Alone
    *Quantum of Solace
*Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
    *Starsky and Hutch

Still quite a fair bit there, it seemed to be anything with 2 discs and under was $10, anything 3 and over was 60% off.

  • Is this online or only in stores?

  • Had a bad experience @ Adelaide store today. Went there @3.45pm to use $20 credit with VIP card but the check out lady said they had technical issue in the last 30mins so I can't use that free $20 and it expire today :(
Spoken to store manager and she still can't help….very poor service.
Anyone have the same crap excuse to reject the use of $20?

    • I had the same bad experience at Melbourne Central this afternoon. They basically aren't offering the $20 credit due to "technical glitch". I think they have been overwhelmed by people using this free credit on the cheap DVD's and are trying to get out of the deal.

There were heaps of DVD's to choose from but nothing spectacular. The box sets are priced pretty high already. There didn't seem to be any discount on blu-ray. Got a couple of items but was annoyed that they are renegging on the $20 credit deal. Overall, although the DVD's were cheap if I had known about the credit ruse I wouldn't have bothered as they didn't have any of the box sets I was after.

      • I think they have been overwhelmed by people using this free credit on the cheap DVD’s and are trying to get out of the deal.

I think the head office notice that and send email to all stores or they ask the IT guys to make that “technical glitch”!

Not many BR DVD in Adelaide store too.

        • I got told "You have $20.00 credit…..but the system won't let me use it." It's like they locked everybody out of redeeming credit.

      • I also went to Melb Central after work to get my free $20 and was told exactly the same thing.. I swore at the girl behind the desk.. I went completely out of my way to get the deal only to be told no.. I'll never venture into borders again, especially after seeing their dvd boxset prices..

    • Chadstone Borders are overriding the 'glitch' and accepting the vip $20 still. Chadstone had very few dvds left though, but good for books.

      • +1 for the service to override the "glitch".
I asked the same about the override but SA store manager refused to do it :(

  • I used my VIP $20 credit tonight in 2 separate transactions successfully. I bought a $10 dvd around 6.30pm and then went back later and bought a couple of magazines and had no problems using it

  • +1

me cries, missed the 20$ credit bah

  • I used my $20 voucher at the Kotara store this morning successfully.
At the Tuggerah store this afternoon my friends could not use their $20 voucher because the vip system was closed as we were buying the dvds at 5:40 when the store was supposed to shut at 5:30. Yet I bought a dvd just before them and the same lady added points to my vip card…..

  • thanks for this
went to the parramatta store and bought 4 blu rays as well a dexter season 1
most of the good stuff was gone though

  • went to Bondi Junction, wouldnt give the $10 Blu Rays but if it had more than 3 discs it was 60% off
    ended up getting on DVD:
    Bored to Death Season 1 - $10
    Ross Noble's Australian Trip - $10
    Nick Frosts Danger Season 1 - $10
    Dexter Season 1 & 2 - $18.80 each
Flight of The Concords Boxset - $20

then went to Macarthur Square after seeing someone else going there on ozbargins, they had the $10 Blu Rays. got
    Where The Wild Things Are
    21
    Superbad
    Get Smart
    The 40 Year Old Virgin
    Death Race

both stores had their systems down so I couldnt get a VIP card at either and my gf couldnt get her $20 credit. annoying

  • I went to the Parrmatta store today and picked up my Borders VIP Card. They handed it over no problems, except they said that in doing so, I would have my Angus and Robertson $10 credit that I had recently applied for - cancelled.

Also, the store offered nothing good in terms of boxsets etc. That was at about 1pm, so I can only imagine it got more pilaged as the afternoon wore on.

  • Went to Parra store this arvo.
They issued me the $20 credit and I was able to get 2 music DVDs for $20(Nirvana and Jamiraqiua).
Really happy with the freebies and glad I signed up to this deal early.
There weren't many good box sets remaining.

  • Just got back from Hornsby and Macquarie earlier this evening. Had to get the other Borders to unlock a DVD. Lucky I realised this before I went all the way home.

Most of the good stuff was gone.

Though managed to get the latest Family Guy 9 and American Dad for 5 for $18 each. And Casino Royal BR $10 + a few other DVD box sets for a good price.

There was even an old HD DVD amongst the blu-rays.

  • Borders Tuggerah still had some decent box sets left 60% off (all, except BBC titles for some reason) but it is the last day today.

Also had $10 price on all blu ray & dvd titles with 2 discs or less.

Got Live 8 concert box set for $36!! (their sticker price was $90) & Spectacle (Elvis Costello show) for only $20.

Got blu rays at $10: American Gangster, 3:10 To Yuma, Oceans Eleven, Benjamin Button, La Femme Nikita

Also picked up a few $10 dvds.

They let me use my $20 v.i.p. credit voucher no problem, so saved another $20 there. I also got another $5 off as I split the purchases & the first sale was over $100.

  • Thanks, i walked into Robina Store today joined the V.I.P Got the lady to activate it for me (lied said i didnt have the net at home… Got my $20. They had heaps of stuff still. LOTR box set, Xmen box set and Transformers generation 1 box set were the stand outs to me personally.

    • Paramatta store wouldn't give me the VIP $20 discount for joining. As they said the deal had already finished and was not available anymore.

      • Your stores lied then :( Unless Qld is still running it?

  • anyone know if this sale is still running?

    • All the sale signs were gone when I went in today. They had rearranged the shop floor already. Alot of the old dvd fixtures were gone, replaced with stationary stands. The dvd section has been killed. They are only carrying a small range now compared to before. The same as they did with their cd section a few months ago.

      RIP.
