    Hi all

    Hi

    • +14

Negged for saying hi. Wtf is this? Cya, deleting my account.

      • -1

        Bye

        • +1

          Nah, you gtfo (jokes)

      • +1

Hey man. Quite honestly, this happens as often as people get upvoted for other playful comments. Don't delete your account. Just ignore it, or laugh it off.

  • +3

if 6" is too big for your Oppo R11 FC Barcelona and Other Colors $499 @ JB Hi-FI

  • +9

$578 and all you get is a snapdragon 660? Am I missing something or is that just garbage

    • +5

Whats wrong with a SD660? Its speed is equivalent to a sd 820 but more energy efficient.

      https://www.androidcentral.com/snapdragon-660

If you want to complain about anything it'll be the garbage software. I'll buy one in a heartbeat if the software was just slightly better.

      • So you'd buy a Oneplus 5T in a heartbeat?

        • +5

If you can find a Aust Stock Oneplus 5T for $580, then sure yes.

The Oneplus 5t is like $650 and from an unknown grey import seller with no warranty..

      • +2

I realise not everyone cares about it, but the graphics score on the 820 is still 70% to 100%+ better according to your link

        • so it appears the SD660 is faster on the cpu side of things but slower on the gpu, scoring half the score of the sd820 in gaming tasks.

so the SD660 is great but i'd stay away from it if you're a heavy gamer.

        • @irev1:

The big advantage the 820 has is phones that use it can be found a lot cheaper than this. I couldn’t care if the efficiency of the 660 is better for the same performance when the price of the phone is hundreds of dollars more. In the future when phones using the 660 get cheaper than I think it’ll be a good alternative.

    • +2

SD660 is actually really good, loads of latest tech in it, it has latest x12 LTE modem, cpu made in smaller node so its more energy efficient, the keyword is efficiency so your battery life lasts longer, newer image processor, Bluetooth 5, Quick Charge 4.0, i would choose this over SD820/821

however a more reasonable price is probably $400ish

      • +1

Considering the 820 is in the axon 7 which could be had for 299

  • +6

    $578 for SD660!?!?

  • looks like they have increased the rrp by 10% and then reduced by 20%

  • The LG G6 would be a better buy at that price, no? ie. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/162704105703

    • +2

Not really, specs of this phone is better. Only thing letting it down is the software which even though LG software is shit , its still better than the Oppo garbage.

      • the SD660 is better unless you're a gamer, then the LG G6 has literally double the performance over the oppo.

      • +1

Specs are better? Sure, if you ignore screen resolution, graphics performance, battery capacity, NFC, lack of waterproof. These things may not matter to some but it's a stretch to say the specs are 'better' without qualification.

        • +1

Ones a last gen flagship, this seems more like an upper midrange phone. So it's not getting features like the nfc, always on display, one of the best phone cameras, or the wide angle lens or the brighter qhd display that are easier to see in sunlight. I would personally lean towards a last gen flagship over this model at this price. But you expect the s660 phones to come down to under $400 which would make them a good alternative then. At this price I don't see it as a deal. And I don't see how anyone can claim it has better specs than last gen flagships.

  • This is essentially a lower spec’d Oneplus 5T?

  • +11

    No NFC

    • Yeh, funny how that detail fell out of his cut and paste.

    • Huge omission for the phone, especially with the huge push for cardless payments (tap-and-go) and NFC syncing on soundbars etc.

I would expect that from a phone maybe 2-3 generations ago, but on a phone of this cost it's pretty inexcusable.

  • Great phone that lasts almost 2 days on a charge, good price too compared to the launch price in China.

  • +5

If you don't care about your phone getting the latest Android updates and get told false hopes from Oppo themselves then the phone is great. But otherwise go elsewhere.

I have an Oppo and won't be purchasing another one.

    • This can be said for majority of phone makers. It all depends on the maker and the model of your phone.

Take Xiaomi for example. I've got a Xiaomi Redmi Note 3. Just got the latest MIUI 9, but it's stuck on Marshmallow while other models have MIUI 9 running on Nougat. Pisses me off, but I'd still get another one of their phones because value for money, they can't be beat. Doesn't hurt that MIUI is quite well thought out… even if I refuse to use any of their apps.

      What's your Oppo experience?

      • +1

Yes, but Oppo promissed that our phones were getting Oreo but it's never happened (I have an r9s plus). All the audio when watching youtube or IG videos are out of sync.

I bought this phone when it was pretty new here in Australia and it's only ever got 1 update from Oppo themselves. They've broken their Security area and there has been no updates to fix the problem.

If you want all your contacts to go directly onto Google not the phone itself it seems impossible to do so.

If you have problems and ask questions on the Oppo help you get barely any responses. Actually I believe they've shut down their forums for Australia.

These phones imo aren't worth the money for something they seem to get rid of very quickly. I'm not someone who buys a new phone every year, I can't afford that. This phone has left me very disappointed.

        • Very good reasons to not get an Oppo. Thanks for sharing.

Also, something similar happened to me and Motorola. The only phones to really get updated with the latest version of Android are Google's own phones.

That said, I could never justify paying over half a grand for a phone. Not on my income anyway.

Let us know what you plan to get next. I'm always looking for a something good and reasonably priced

  • +7

Oppo have superb hardware/price ratios, but software UI and updates are garbage tier.

  • +5

Spend the extra $50-100, and get the OnePlus 5T.

  • No NFC is a deal breaker unfortunately.

    • +10

With your username, not sure why you need NFC…

      • Haha, if only.

  • +1

$578 for SD660 and Oppo's utterly terrible software, I'll stay clear of this one

+ing the deal though, it's still a good deal for the particular device in AU stock

  • -7

Im going to throw a monkey wrench here and try and ban Oppo's from being posted on OB…. I recently purchased the a75…. after 1 week took it back and got a refund… why here is what i found and was a complete deal breaker… Just in case others wonder that these phone are the beez kneez.

    1. ColorOS is a complete rip off of the iPhone theme, almost identical
    2. The Android experience is almost Nil when compared to other Android-based phones (ive gone through a few)
    3. The security on the phone is so tight you will be hard to use third-party apps properly without issues
    4. You can ONLY install and use 5 applications that require enhanced app permissions to use them properly, eg… Last Pass, requires APP FILL service to be enabled to work properly. That would be considered 1 of the 5 apps you are allowed to sign permissions. After 5 you will not be able to. I have confirmed this with Oppo and they have confirmed this is by design and they will consider allowing more apps to be managed in the future. LOL

After this point, i had enough.

    • +5

Wait, so because the phone software doesn't suit you, you want all Oppos banned from OzB?

      • BBBahhahahahah -6 votes… keyboard bashers everywhere… why don't you and the other who negged me take the advice as a 'Watch out' rather than start keyboard bashing… If you didn't realise im actually helping people not make the same mistake i did…

  • Seeing as everyone is saying to stay away from oppo. What would be people recommend for similar price/performace and is Australian stock.

    • +2

The LG G6 is the only Aus Stock phone I can think of in that's comparable.

      • +1

Have LG fixed their capacitor-related boot loop issues with this phone?

  • This is beautiful to look at, unfortunately for most oz bargainer, is the specs that matters the most.

  • Had an Oppo R7 Plus and loved it. Great AMOLED screen, huge battery/quick charge, and 6" screen (old ratio - surface area much larger than 6" screen on an 18:9 ratio phone). Played a lot of Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes on it without a hitch, even though it also used a midrange chip. Oppo software was fine, and the ones you don't like you just install the Google alternative - what's the big deal?

Using an LG V20 now, for better audio, but it doesn't make me love it like I loved the Oppo. So don't just assume what you hear is right - make your own decision, go hold the phone etc.

All that said - I do think Oppo has had a noticeable price bump on its models and for $600 I too would go with a V30. But I will be very tempted when the R11s Plus comes out, ludicrously large which is just the way I like it :)
