Back to School - Recommendations for Storage Boxes & Decluttering

Hi Guys,

With the school year starting we're getting organized! I'm after some boxes for storage, for old school books, clothes (future self) craft stuff and draw contents. Preferably clear ones. Any recommendations? Things that can stack and don't chip easily would be great. I'd store them exactly where the stuff is (inside the house) and in a storage unit (just the boxes) for fear of 'out of sight, out of mind' as things get lost easily here.

Oh and we have a crazy silverfish problem, any idea how to solve that? Moth balls in the boxes?

Also any tips on decluttering, letting go of things like said school books when I actually finished school almost a decade ago (overseas then had my stuff shipped over)? I'm the Queen of Clutter, and can't seem to get go of things ranging from old middle school boxes to $200 scientific calculators, barely used but out of date. There's that crazy thing that says 'one day I'll need it' as I might go back to teaching.

Thanks,

I'm thinking of getting the $6.30 OW ones, and then if I need more the Starmaid. Thoughts?

You are not alone in the clutter department. My problem is I know I bought everything in my house for a reason, even if I can't remember what is was, and I know that a lot of it is only going to be landfill if I throw it out.

For storage, if you have a spare wall then I would look at the Ikea Kallax shelving units (They also make good room dividers as well)

YOu can put a bunch of colour coded boxes on the shelves for storing items, they also come with options for doors, if you want to prefer them to look like lockers.

    • I've always wanted one of those. In between moving (as I just came back home from college) awaiting the next move, so can't buy furniture sadly. I'm a cluttered who loves what he called 'pretty but purpose-less' things, when I lived at college I have one shelf where it was restricted to, and I'd change them weekly, though here things vanish fast into an episode of 'hoarders buried alive'.

  • These are the cheapest 50L boxes we have seen thanks to this website. They are not clear though.

  • Thats what self storage is for, your excess stuff you dont want to get rid of.

  • Those that you have listed seem to break very easily, i would go with heavy duty instead from bunnings
