LG G2 Broken Screen: Repair or New Phone?

I dropped my beloved LG G2 and cracked the screen. The phone still functions but half of the screen is now unresponsive. Should I get the screen repaired, or should I just buy a new phone?

If I get a new phone, it might be another LG (maybe G5? G6?) - I just like how they work. I've no problems with the G2, aside from a lack of storage space, but it does everything I need.

If you think I should get the screen repaired, where could you recommend? I've seen a quote from Aussie Mobile Phone Repairs for $145 with what they claim are genuine parts.

    I bought wife a g5 for $300.

    • Yeah that's a good price, and it would definitely make a repair uneconomical. My worry with the G5 is the modular thing, and the battery life. Yeah I'm really cursing that I dropped my G2.

    • I would repair it myself, but I don't have the time, I'm afraid. The other issue is that I worry that Aliexpress screens will not look as good as the original…

If you want a budget phone = Xiaomi Mi A1
If you want a removable battery = LG V20
If you want the most Bang for Buck = ZTE Axon 7
If you want the fastest device = Samsung Galaxy S9+
If you want the most expensive = iPhone X
If you want the best Bang for Buck iPhone = 6S Plus (128GB)

*Band 28 included, if excluded you have the option of the OnePlus 3t or lower, or many Xiaomi and Chinese phones

If you don't need Band 28, I highly recommend the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X for $180 AUD from AliExpress Goldway seller.

Been using mine for about 2 months and love it! Brilliant phone considering the price.

      • Even better if you could falsh LineageOS or any other decent 3rd party ROM.
I am using ViperOS (almost stock android), very happy so far specially the battery life

    Get a new phone.

I have a LG G2 as well, I liked it so much I went and bought from Aliexpress a new battery to replace the internal one. Unfortunately with my clumsiness, after taking the phone apart and reassembling it, the device no longer works.

The Xiaomi Mi A1 is a suitable replacement for LG G2, but if you want something that takes great photos I suggest looking at a flagship phone like a S7 / S8, Axon 7, or some other flagship Xiaomi (Mi series, not Redmi).

Oneplus series and the Nokia 8 also a good option for stock Android experience.

  • Thanks, everybody, for your suggestions - they are all interesting, useful and helpful to me.

I think deep down I'm mostly annoyed that I broke my G2, and I can't find anything to replace it with. Every time I compare specs against a new phone, I find that my G2 is faster or has greater battery life or is lighter or something like that.

However, on the flipside, I also understand that repairing a five year old phone is not really an economical proposition - the headphone jack was starting to feel a little more loose, I was running out of storage space, and what about the battery?

All this is giving me far more stress than it warrants. :/

  • Hey OP, I (profanity) LOVED my LG G2 so I know exactly how you feel. Everything was innovative about it, the back buttons, super thin bezel, the knock code (even from screen off), double tap off and the immense battery (at the time). I probably tried 2-3 new phones but sold them and went back to the G2.

Eventually, I got such a great deal on an S7 Edge that I couldn't pass up.

I know the G2 is great but if you want to convince yourself into getting a new phone, think about having these additional features:
    - waterproofing (specifically IP68)
    - even longer battery life (the battery on your G2 should have depreciated into almost nothing by now)
    - dual SIM (this is essential for OzBargainers IMO but can be replaced by a microSD)
    - much better camera and display

I'm also about to upgrade from my S7 Edge with all these eBay coupons I've just amassed.

    • Why is dual SIM essential for ozbargainers? what am I missing out on…. !? cheers

I keep one number as my primary, and regularly switch out the second one for promo deals linked to mobile numbers, i.e. ones that require you to verify via phone.
