Help Please! HT CT790 Sony Soundbar Suddenly Stopped Working with Samsung TV

Hi guys,

Need some help with sound bar issue.

As title suggests I have a HT CT790 song sound bar and UA55F8000 model Samsung tv.

Had these for a year now all working fine then suddenly no more sound from the sound bar since 2 days ago.

The sound bar used to be connected to Anynet+ via Samsung tv (I never set this up I think it just picked up itself?).

I initially thought it was the sound bar then called Sony and did some testing , connected my ps4 and laptop to the sound bar all working fine so it came down to the tv.

Samsung rep was no help over the phone after resetting the TV 2 times. Then the sound bar worked for a bit (without connecting to Anynet+) so I thought it was all good and turned off tv. When I turned back on the sound bar stopped working again.

Soundbar is connected using HDMI (HDMI out ARC) to HDMI ARC IN on Samsung tv.

Any help would be appreciated!

    • Have you tried adjusting the Sound settings such as the Audio format (Digital Audio Out)
    • Have you check that speaker select settings is not using TV speakers?
    • Try disable AnyNet (it may be turning off your soundbar)
    • Try using Support > Self Diagnosis > Sound Test
    • Have you selected the correct input on your soundbar?

  • Warranty claim?

    • Bought the TV 3 years ago out of warranty already ;(

      • Not according to Australian Consumer Law.

        Suspect HDMI board issue.

Contact the firm that sold you the TV.

        • How long should the warranty be according to Australian Consumer Law?

The retailer sold a product with a guarantee that it would work for a duration of 3 years - and it did. What else can the law do?

          @R-Man:

More than 3 years for a TV of that price!

Google ACL and read the Act.
Whirlpool has some interesting cases,if you use the search function.
Think a similar case was found to be 7 years at a VCAT hearing.

        • @Dave Id:

Nice! here's what i have found on a news article
          http://www.abc.net.au/news/2011-06-07/broken-but-out-of-warr…

For example, if consumers generally buy a television with a reasonable expectation for it to last five years, then they may have a statutory guarantee against the retailer that lasts substantially longer than the one year manufacturer's warranty.

If the TV is a more expensive brand, especially one that makes claims about its quality and durability, it will be held to a higher standard of quality and durability under the ACL than a home brand that is half the price and does not make similar claims.

This is a forum. I don't see the problem with users asking questions. If people such as myself want to volunteer to help, that is my choice.
If you aren't going to contribute anything to the discussion, then move along.

A lot of the time the support people on the phones know very little or nothing at all. It can take the comment of an experienced person to resolve an issue that the phone support people cannot.
I work in I.T. and this happens all the time.

      • IT tells me to turn it off and back on, generally fixes my issues.

Try connecting another audio device with an HDMI input (e.g. borrow a soundbar from a friend / family member), or an A/V receiver to the TV. If you have same issue, then it's the TV. If it works, then you're in luck and it's the soundbar.

Btw, I recently bought the same soundbar and you got me worried now, especially since some reviews also say that it's has stopped working unexpectedly, which I thought was surprising as I've found Sony products to be very reliable.

    • So after not working for a day, the soundbar and tv started to work with each other again in the morning…not sure what happened but it' working now.

Tbh, I'm not entirely impressed with the soundbar even though I bought it at a massive discount. I have had trouble with playing Spotify through the soundbar because it sometimes just stops playing after 30secs - 60secs..randomly…

My mate is also not impressed with the sound although I think it's decent. Gonna keep using it for maybe another year or so, then upgrade to a bose soundbar.

  • This soundbar is a dud. I bought it beginning of last year when JB Hi-Fi had it on sale. Stopped working within a week. Then came the annoying encounter when returning it back to the store.
