  • Very good(cheap) price for Class 10. I'm tempted…. but too bad I don't need 32GB

  • The Class 10 has a maximum transfer speed of 22MB/s, MINIMUM is 10 not 20, average is 14.

Advertising these as "(20MB/s) minimum guaranteed speed" is just nonsense.

Here it is from the horse's mouth: http://panasonic.com.au/products/details.cfm?objectID=5274

"UP TO 22MB/S HIGH SPEED DATA TRANSFER RATE", up to, not minimum.

    • The minimum speed is guaranteed by Lexar, it does not relate to 'Class 10'.

      Quoted from Lexar website:

*Minimum 20MB/s read transfer, write speeds lower. Speeds based on TestMetrix certified tester. Actual sustained speed may vary depending on host device.

      • Class rating defines the write speed, not the read speed. Read speed is pretty irrelevant for most usage, since the write speed is the bottleneck and read speed is always much higher than write.

Do us a favour and run a CrystalDiskMark benchmark on one. Going by recent trends, you will probably be looking at 11MB/s sequential write speed. My old sandisk Class 4 microSD is faster than that at 14MB/s.

    Staticice is your friend.

Not a bargain if there are SDHC Class 10s for ~$65 and in stock by other guys.

  • If the minimum speed meets its claimed 20MB/s, why is it only a class 10 device? Shouldn't it have Class 20 rating?

Class 10 (or other classes) is more about marketing I think. And it's currently the highest class for SD cards. There's no Class 20 or 30 (yet). We also sell SanDisk Extreme SDHC cards 30MB/s and it's still classed as Class 10.

      http://sandisk.com.au/products/dslr/sandisk-extreme-sdhc-car…

      • Sandisk have their 30MB/s as the max transfer speed, which is fine for a class 10 as long as the minimum is above 10MB/s.
They have announced Class 16 cards which is the highest I've seen so far, its usually very hard to guarantee always over 20MB/s throughout the chip.

  • Beside the Lexar Pro card, we have decided to add to the deal another Class 10 card to provide more choices for people. Although this Class 10 card is cheaper, it comes from Transcend, not a generic brand from elsewhere.

  • There is the READ speed and the WRITE speed. Class 2,4,6,10 speaks about minimum sustained write speed. A class 10 SDHC is able to handle a minimum of 10Mb/s write speed.

The Minimum 22Mb/s is READ speed. I am not aware of a SHDC card that is able to write 22Mb/s.

      Sandisk Extreme Class 10 30mb/s
      SDSDX3-008G-A31
      CrystalDiskMark 2.2
      Sequential Read : 28.930 MB/s
      Sequential Write : 23.260 MB/s
      Random Read 512KB : 28.272 MB/s
      Random Write 512KB : 4.573 MB/s
      Random Read 4KB : 5.391 MB/s
      Random Write 4KB : 0.042 MB/s
      Test Size : 100 MB
There you go now you know there's one

      • Thanks, yep Sandisk Extreme are the gold standard…
But what about these two you have on offer here? They could be half the speed of that Sandisk and yet still be called Class 10.

        • Yes, but in another note, SanDisk has an equivalent series 20MB/s (actually more expensive) and they prefer to call it Class 6, probably to make it different from the Extreme 30MB/s Class 10.
          http://www.sandisk.com.au/products/imaging/sandisk-extreme-h…

        • @Peter
In the fine print on that link it says…

** Up to 20 MB/sec read and write speed

emphasis on the bit that says Up to

We are just going round in circles here. Class rating is fine and all, but if you are trying to flog super dooper Class 10 cards, then we need to know that the actual sequential write speeds are significantly higher than their 10MB/s class rating states.

Otherwise I may as well stick with my old Class 4 Sandisk microSD which gives me 14MB/s. Or my new Kingston Class 4 microSD which gives me 10MB/s. They are both much cheaper than your cards, and both could technically be called Class 10, and which would be called Class 10 by lesser manufacturers, like Transcend and Lexar.

          Look here http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1582172
A Lexar Class 6 card is significantly slower than a Kingston Class 4. A Transcend Class 6 is faster than a Lexar Class 6. All cards so far pale by comparison to my 2 year old Sandisk Class 4.

  • Does it include th downloadable Lexar Image Rescue software for free?

    • Yes, it does include the downloadable Lexar Image Rescue 4.

  • Any possibility of a good deal on an 8/16GB Lexar pro card? Thinking 32GB may be too big.
    Or maybe a Sandisk Extreme.

    • We will try to make a deal for smaller capacities and will post it here if and when possible.

  • Hi Stumo,

To make it simple, we go only by what the manufacturer claims. And we thought it is a bargain for those who are after it, because our price is significantly cheaper for the same product elsewhere. If you find another card is better, then please just stick to it. All the best with your purchase.

    Cheers,
    Peter
