Smartphone Cradles for External Antenna

Has anyone had a notable increased signal when using a Smart Phone Cradle + External Antenna

I am really looking for people that can positively say that their Cradles Passive connection works for them

I purchased a Strike Cradle and it does nothing at all
I have tried patch lead antennas and placing them around the phone, also with no gain.

I don't use an iPhone or a Samsung phone, so the cradle would need to be universal
Are these cradles just a joke when it come to increased range?

I have heard the Commcar Cradles work for some people

What's the use case? Reception in rural areas while driving?

Does your phone have an external antenna connector? (Do these even exist anymore..?) I assume not given the path you're going down but I'd be weary of anything that claims to improve reception unless they have a direct connection to the phones antenna.

  • Yes, obviously direct connection is preferable, but there is no option for that in todays handsets
Samsung did kind of have a port you could use on the S3, S4 and S5.

Yes, the function of this product is just to prevent those drop out areas when signal is marginal.
IE: Turn 1 Bar into 3 Bars (which is what some users claim it does for them.

All we have now is Passive Coupling or an Amplifier with 2 antennas (i'm not prepared to spend $1700 on that option yet)

This is the type of thing i'm talking about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDRXh6TpcM4
