I know, it's ridiculous isn't it. I don't normally buy it but had to for a specific reason, and a $1 saving made it just a little easier.

It swear it used to be that chicken was more expensive in AU as you can now easily get chicken fillets for $6/kg these days. Stir fry beef is about $17/kg at butchers.

From my understanding, we export the majority of our beef to Asia and I have a feeling that the reduced supply has pushed up prices well beyond that of chicken.

  • Only ever buy these when they're being chucked for half price or lower.

They make a nice sanga, but beyond that, they're pretty useless.

They're good for testing out some home-made sauces and marinades.
Mate and I bought some and did some experimental flavouring. Ended up finding our new secret recipe ;)

        • Then it wouldn't be a secret recipe ;)

    • Crumbed steak would also work.

    • They're okay for slicing up for stir fries.

  • Rump steak from some IGA's can be had cheap when on special
(I've bought for as low as $6/kg) ,
    locally sourced .

If you cut all the grisel out, and marinate in soy sauce it's good for stir frys

If you don't have a country IGA about then some of these superbutchers do specials around $10-12 for rump ,
and you can hit it with a meat tenderizer hammer if you want it to sizzle
