International vs Global ROM ?

Hi, I'm looking to purchase a Xiaomi phone and have the option to get them with the International or Global ROM.

Just wanted to know the difference between International vs Global ROM, if it's hardware or software related.

I also read somewhere that some sellers are unboxing the phones then installing ROMs on them. I prefer to buy them factory sealed.

  • I think the seller of the phone confused

Googling "xaiomi international rom" comes with 700 hits , and "xaomi global rom" 45,000 hits

But there is an international version of most of their phones that may come with more bands but i think they only do 4 roms - Global , Chinese and Betas of Global and Chinese roms.

Now some company could have a custom os and call it that but it would be more beneficial for you to ask them what the differences is than to speculate on here.

  • Are we talking about the android rom or are we talking about stuff like boot loaders and other imgs.

It could be talking the android ROM language.

It could also be talking about whether it's going to work on the Australian mobile network freq.

There is no international ROM, though places often sell a Xiaomi phone with the Global Rom as an international version of the phone.

    They are the same thing.

With Xiaomi, naming conventions are extremely confusing due to the difference in what Xiaomi officially calls a product, and what the community knows it as.

  • It's international version vs global version. I think the difference is basically just the power plug. International = US Plug, Global = EU Plug.

  • They're referring to the international version of MIUI IMO. http://en.miui.com/

There are two official mui versions. International and China. As China has google blocked, most of the apps in the rom have been replaced with Baidu equivalents. This is all software from the factory.

It's pretty much pointless to re-flash (for store owners) now that xiaomi has put all these unlock waiting periods in place.

  • All I know is this - never buy a phone with a vendor ROM. Unless you enjoy giving your phone the technological equivalent of an STD.
