    Thanks! got 1!

  • genuine question: i never own device with usb c before.
i just bought new laptop and it has usb c port. what can i do with that port? what kind of cable i have to buy? i guess not this (i think this cable is for charging a mobile phone with usb c)

    • +1

USB Type C is just the new format of USB. You would use it in the same way you would use your normal USB ports on your laptop and eventually you'll find most laptops only have USB type C included.

When that happens you'll have to get something like this dongle to use your old USB items

      https://www.zapals.com/usb-type-c-to-female-usb-3-0-type-a-o…

      • i see so for now this cable posted here wont be useful for me, correct? as i dont have mobile phone with usb c.

any other use of the usb c port on my laptop? for example get usb c to hdmi?

        • Exactly, this cable is only beneficial if you have a device which requires it (like my Pixel 2 phone or the new GoPro)

Not a lot of devices at the moment use USB-C to USB-C, so you'll mainly use this port for what you mentioned USB-C to HDMI/Display ports or to connect a standard USB hub

It IS useful for laptop owners as you can charge your laptop via USB C instead of the normal charger. Handy if you don't want to carry the OEM charger around.

You will need to check that your laptop supports this PD feature though

      • Are you serious? I can charge the laptop with usb c and small charger just like the one I use to charge my mobile phone? Instead carrying the power brick.
My laptop is hp elitebook 840 g3

Unless thinks have changed probably not
          https://www.pcworld.com/article/3017182/hardware/usb-c-charg…

          https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c04723006

Even if it could work using a mobile phone charger wouldn't charge your device while you are using it.

Your HP charger is probably 65 watts. Your phone charger is probably 10 watts.

If your laptop needs 15 watts to operate then the battery will deplete with a 10 watt phone charger.

You will also find that laptops run in a lower performance mode when running on battery so using a charger with a lower output than needed may not let the laptop operate at its maximum performance.

    • You might be able to use this to charge your laptop. Does your original charger charge your laptop through your USB-C port like the new MacBooks do?

How good is the quality of this cable in regards to using with a BlitzWolf® BW-S6 QC 3.0 charger and also data transfer ? Would you suggest a better cable . To use with a LG G5 phone.

    • +10

If it's not Benson approved, don't buy it. This thing probably has a good chance of frying your device.

      • Thanks for the advice.

      • -3

Is it really? Sounds like Trump statement.
What will fry your devices is the power output, not the cable!
A bad cable may have higher resistance which slow down the charge or data rate.

        • +6

Or lack of pull up resistor built into cable which relates to charging control.

    • you are comparing this $1 with blitzwolf at what $5? how good is this? 1/5 of blitzwolf. mathematically and literally.

    • Just to chime in here. I got meme'd in to buying a 1m BlitzWolf cable last time gear best had a sale.

Literally one goddamn day and it broke. Only charges if I fiddle around with the USB-A side cable. Utter garbage compared to the one that came with the phone.

  • I only have had one cheap USB-C cable work with data transfer. The rest only support charging. Buy the Blitzwolf.

  • sweet scored one

This looks like a copy of an Anker cable. Anker cables are fantastic (arguably better than apple cables)and are fully compatible with apple devices - so nothing gets fried. Highly recommend them.

  • Dont buy this. This is crap and can harm your phone / laptop.

    • -2

Do you have any proof that this particular cord may harm my phone/laptop?
      Do you own one?

I would like to know before buying.

    • +1

How can it harm your phone?

      • +7

        Give this a read: https://bensonapproved.com/

Tl;dr: it's worth paying a little bit more for the safety of your device

        • +1

thanks, il give it a read

        • +3

How much does it cost to get a cord bensonapproved?

Has bensonapproved tested every USB C cord in existence?

Will only cords on this list not destroy my laptop/phone?

        • Strange that no phone manufacturer has a cord listed that I can see.

You think they would be super-fussy when it comes to providing a cord that could potentially lead to a warranty and publicity nightmare.

You think their phones would all have 'BensonApproved cord provided' written right on the box.

@xev: This guys tests cables in his spare time. The ones that are available mostly on Amazon.com (he's based in the US). He does it out of charity because he got sick of bad cables. He's not a business validating cables so that they can become 'certified'.

Everyone in the tech circles know of his work. He works full time at Google (hence the disclaimer at the bottom of the page).

        • +2

@xev: Why would you waste time testing a phone manufacturer's cable? If it screws up your phone, you can straight up go ask for replacement of your phone.

You're unlikely to get any claim on some random 3rd party seller.

        • oooohhh Benson, hhhggghhh hggghhhhhh, ohhhh, yeeeeaaahhhh,

        • $1 compare to $30 is a bit more?

      • +1

The only way I can see of royally stuffing up a micro USB cable is if you short +5V to GND.
Sure it's developed various protocols and resistance detection by chargers to provide better changing, but otherwise a wire with just wire is fine.

USB-C though seems to require the resistors at least, which introduces all the considerations like the wrong value, faulty wiring, etc.

      • unlikely to harm your phone. It might harm your charger, if the cable tells your phone that it can draw more current than the charger can (safely) supply.

I bought one, but I'm probably only ever going to use it on a charger, never connected to a laptop/PC.

      • A phone can be fried when the phone acts as a source to another USB C device like switch.

A phone can supply power to Switch.

I don’t know why people downvoted you

      https://www.engadget.com/2016/02/03/benson-leung-chromebook-…

Some cheaper USB type C has the potential to fry your board. Buy them at your own risk, after spending hundred of dollars on your phone/laptop, why would you risk it just to save a couple of dollars?

      • +2

Apparently buying something at 1$ is more important.

Wait a few months when the same people post a thread about the phone being fried.

Lol here we go again with the comments 'not worth it' 'better off spending a few more bucks on a better cable' 'its going to damage your expensive devices'… It's main use for this much is probably just a spare or something to take with you somewhere without worrying that only its only a buck.

  • Is it 3A or 2.4A?

    Thanks OP, ordered.

Forgot to mention earlier I have this cable (bought a month or so ago) and it's pretty good quality. Supports QC 3.0

    • Thanks for the update.

  • Bought 3.

    Niceuuu.

  • Does it work well with iPhone 7plus?

  • Thumbnail looked like a cricket ball. Slightly disappointed.

  • ordered, thanks!

  • This only took 11 days to reach my door. Cheering
