Thoughts on This Plan - Telstra NBN Connect Plus

Thinking about switching providers, and taking up this plan while there are a couple of free offers in place.

50mbps, 1000GB per month, $0 connection fee and $200 credit towards the Frontier router making it only $16. Total price comes to $80/month on a 24 month contract.

Any thoughts before I commit to 2 years?

What kind of NBN connection is available at your place? HFC, FTTP, FTTN or FTTC
Ask you neighbors who already have NBN and ask what their speeds are before switching.

    • I have FTTP and our speeds are good. Only on a 25/5 service at the moment, neighbour is with another provider and getting 90ish on a 100mbps. Both have FTTP.

  • There are most likey better value plans without a 2year commitment. They do monthly plans but $10 more and you have the modem cost and connection fee.

I was with Telstra (Cable) and when NBN arrived they wanted a $99 connection fee and a higher cost per month for the same data/speed. They seemed to have become a bit more reasonable…

I moved to BuzzTelco and fiarly quickly to AussieBB. Simce leaving Cable, the NBN has had more outages in 3months than 6years of cable.

  • I have FTTP and our speeds are good. Only on a 25/5 service at the moment, neighbour is with another provider and getting 90ish on a 100mbps. Both have FTTP.

I am hesitant about the fact its a two year committment and who knows what congestion might come in 3, 6, 12 months time… The freebies ($0 connection, $16 modem instead of $216) expires tomorrow so need to ideally place an order today, or keep looking.

  • Never ever sign up to a contract this is 2018 there is no need for it.

  • I've got Telstra —> $99 UNLIMITED..

When I signed up I negotiated the "speed boost' for free via a $20 pm credit to the account. Recently, the ACCC have 'forced' telstra to refund speed boost spends so this no longer exists. However, what does still exist is my $20 credit each month. I am still on the $99 UNLIMITED plan but get $20 back each month, thus $79pm.

It's been a few months and they still haven't noticed. I doubt they will.

Interestingly, even though I was not paying for the speed boost I also got a refund of ~$400 some time last year (perhaps April 2017 ish). Again, I never told them and they never said anything.

    Speeds are great (FTTP).

tl:dr - Telstra billing is farcical, but it can work in your favour if you negotiate shrewdly and are lucky.

    • Wow, that's a pretty good price! lol

  • I've been with them for 4 years. PAYG $70PM NBN FTTN. 25/5, 250GB Unlimited Voice Calls - (less 1300) & their lovely + $2.93PM silent line. (Well I believe that they will remove this fee eventually)

Tbh, the internet connection has been good. Some dropouts but usually resolved quickly. However voice calls are another thing. Voice calls clear most of the times, however at time get crackles. Modems usually last a couple of years however I argue with them of paying for a replacement. They back down and give me a freebie.

At times the customer support is quick and at peak times, you usually wait for 20 mins. They try to help.

    So not too bad tbh.

    Cheers

    • Thanks for that kind offer. Unfortunately, I can't sign up with Aussie BB. Received the following msg:

Please note: we have currently stopped connections in your area due to our policy of not selling above more than 80% of available bandwidth. We don't believe it's fair to sell you a crappy, over-crowded service. We have more bandwidth ordered in your area which we expect to come on board around 2018-03-31

      • Perhaps just go with MyRepbulic or another provider on a no contract plan for a couple of months then churn over to Aussie Broadband when there is more capacity.
