Car insurance renewal

Hi all
Its that time of the year for us to renew comprehensive car insurance! We switched over to Woolworths last year, who have jacked up their premium by 40% (~ $300 per year)
Are you aware of any deals out there that can be beneficial for us?
Checked out a couple of quotes but all are on par with Woolworths. Dammit last year was good lol!

Just done a couple of ours, you need to ring around and talk with a CSR. Then you need to do it again next year. :)

    • Thanks mate, I know it varies customer to customer but do you mind sharing which provider gave you the best deal?
Also, is there anything we should say which will help our case?

      • We went with YOUI again this year, their renewal was a bit higher than last year but I gave them a call and they sorted it out for me over the phone. Suncorp was also pretty good. Not sure what you can say to them to sweeten the deal, it's pretty competitive as is, just be nice and answer their questions honestly. Prepare to spend some time on the phone though but it could save you a heap. As an example we were with NRMA for about 25years with no claims but their premium kept going up and up. Last November they wanted $840 bux for my 14 year old car and they wouldn't budge on price. Shopped around and got it at Suncorp for $320.

        • Comprehensive for $320 is a great deal!

        • @nubzy: The car is only worth 5K so YMMV. :)

        • @EightImmortals:

you go in-store suncorp or phone or online ?

        • @phunkydude: At a car dealership actually. :) We bought a car from these guys last year and they offered Suncorp ins at the same time. Also spoke to suncorp on the phone and feel they offered the right price there too. Just ring a few companies and you'l get an idea for what's a fair rate.

Out of interest have you tried a new quote for Woolworths to see if you get a cheaper rate than if you simply renewed, sounds silly but this would save me a few hundred dollars each year when I had house insurance.

    • Lol, tried it but does not work. Woolworths is most expensive when i get a new quote!

    Try https://huddle.com.au/

I found them cheap and easy sign up process, not sure about claim process.

I took this last month. my insurer increased the premium two years in a raw!!

    • Wow, they are cheap…just did a quote now…interesting…

      • my quote stuck at 'Please Wait'

        • I thought I would check out youi. My quote stuck at “you are just the kind of customer we want we are calling you right now”, 4 weeks llater I am still waiting for the call. 😇

  • I have talked to them few times. My quote had issue with some processing and the lady on the call gave me 10% discount for inconvenience.

let me know if you buy, I will get 50 dollars if I refer!!

  • I was in the same boat. I had a policy with Woolies and with the huge price increase I surprisingly found NRMA to be the cheapest. I suggest you check them out.

  • If it doesn’t have “choice of repairer” option, you really should look elsewhere.
There is a reason why they want you to use their own repairer.
