Discount Tickets Tasmania

Hey fellow OzBargainers,

I have an upcoming trip to Tasmania next month and I'm in the process of looking at/booking things I'd like to do while I'm there.

Usually when I travel domestically, the first thing I do is check all the deal sites to purchase discounted tickets for activities. To my surprise, I've found that none of the deal sites have any listings for Tasmania. Furthermore, I haven't been able to find discounted tickets by googling them.

Some of the activities I'm looking at doing include:
Tours
Visiting Wineries/Brewery's
Day Activities

Would love to hear from experienced OzBargainers who either live in Tassie, or have travelled there.

You can do a tour of the Moo Brew brewery which is just a bit out of Hobart. Nice guys and a fairly modern, medium-sized brewery. I think you just call ahead. Iron House might be worth a stop for a tasting paddle if you're travelling down the east coast. I didn't tour the brewery but the location is very nice. Some other options here:

    • Thanks for the input Daz, I'll check it out.

I think discounted tickets will be pretty scarce; lots of demand such that you may need to book ahead for some things.

I recommend the following (depending on your interests, available time, location, etc) in no particular order:

    • Bruny Island (scenery, oysters, cheese, Pennicott's boat tours)
    • MONA (art, wine, food, beer)
    • East Coast (very scenic with lots of attractions along the way, wine, food)
    • Launceston and area (wine, food, Boags Brewery, The Gorge)
    • Thank you GG57! I'll definitely look into Pennicott's boat tours.

We did a road trip, picked the rental car from Hobart and dropped at Launceston, stopped few places along the way-Hobart, Frecinet Retreat, Bay of Fires,Launceston. The drive was the best thing IMO and you get to see so much, I believe it was the Easter Freeway from my memory. Would so recommend to anyone visiting Tas. If you just fly in and out from one place, it would be very boring. As for discounts, I did not find any. Most days were spent driving, going to beautiful beaches, visiting wineries and very few day activities.

    • Sounds like you had a wonderful trip. Thank you for your insights.

I'm flying in and out of Hobart. I prebooked my rental car in December ($175 for 9 days) and I'm glad I did because prices are more than double at the moment. I will make the most of having a rental car and be sure to stop at anything that takes our interest. Given there is so much to see and do, I was thinking of restricting our travel to the east coast such as yourself.

There are tourist discount coupon books you can pick up in hard copy at all of the visitor information centres. The coupons are statewide and cover a variety of things like wineries, zoos, tours, activities and food places. They are really great value as well - for example the Tahune air walk south of Hobart is 50% off with the coupon. You may be able to find the book online too?

    • Hi Jeff! That's a great piece of advice. I'll be sure to check out the visitor information booths there. Thank you.
