Will Flight Centre beat Expedia? Has anyone done this?
Thanks in advance
Yes they will, but I doubt Expedia is the best price. They will even beat Zuji by a $1, which is often better quotes than Expedia.
They price match, then they add fries - and ice cream , to the invoice. CC surcharges, captains membership. And absurd quotes for travel insurance. So just when you think your work has finished, you've got to start again!! I think that they orient themselves to people who just want to pay to get someone else to do the work, which is not a bad thing of course - but not necessarily the typical OZBer
why use flight centre?
why not do the research and save yourself some serious coin?
i approached flight centre years ago when travelling to Hong Kong and Guangzhou. i was unaware you could catch a train from HK to Guangzhou for about $30AU.
flight centre advised me the ONLY way to get to Guangzhou from HK is by plane for a few hundred bucks.
told them i'll come back and book, went home did some research and realised they were trying to rip me off.
I only consider them if the cheapest online website is dodgy or has bad reviews.
obviously one would not even consider using a dodgey website or company, there's plenty of legit ones around to find better deals than flight centre
Flight centre can match it as the total (they can waive the cc fee if it makes it more expensive). What I can't deal with is, they need approval from head office or whatever for the price beat. I'm really not a person who can sit peacefully if it's regarding plane tickets deal. Last time it took them like half a day to approve the price beat, I couldn't wait (as they were the last few tickets available) and bought them somewhere else.
Asked them to price beat Zuji. First response was that Zuji are not Australian. I pointed out that the website is a dot AU, so the consultant said, that since the price is within their margin, can price beat. Have the tickets on hold, haven't bought yet
They can but these days you really don't need to. If you found a good price online, from a reputable website, then you should feel confident to book that directly. Make sure you have travel insurance and you'll be fine.
Is there any particular reason why you have to use flight centre? Do you have a voucher with them or something like that?
Found cheap quotes from bestjet but read horrific reviews about them.
Was hoping to find a cheap quote online, get price matched with Flight Centre, then use vouchers bought from Woolworths - 5% discount off international airfares
Based on all the bad reviews I can see why you wouldn't want to buy from bestjet - I guess all you can do is ask flight centre to look at those flights and see what they can do. Good idea to use the vouchers!
I saved 20k not going to flight centre
Check whether the airline offers any price match/ price promise first
Can you explain how that would work. Airlines I'm looking at are Qantas, Turkish, Lufthansa, would they pricematch third party travel agent?
See VicKiwi's comment below for Qantas' program. Not sure if Turkish or Lufthansa has something similar. You should be able to find that out from their websites.
Qantas have a price promise

Qantas only beat their own fares tho, won’t price match other airlines.
I'd suggest asking Flight Centre to beat Bestjet instead, as they're usually cheaper and are an Australian business.
I usually go to Flight Centre, Student Flights, STA travel to price match flights when the airline charges credit card fees because the travel agents used to waive credit card fees along with the price match/beat. This is no longer the case for Flight Centre as they changed the policy and will only match the credit card fees for whatever vendor they price match.
In November 2017, Flight Centre insisted on charging me the captains package when price matching a flight, so I went to Student Flights (who they own) instead who happily waived credit card fees and didn't charge any type of booking fee.
However a few weeks ago, a Flight Centre store team leader price matched Bestjet without adding on the captain's package and matched Bestjet's credit card fees rather than waiving credit card fees as they usually do.
I recently found out Suncorp customers get 3% off Flight Centre gift cards, plus bonus $50 on every $500 voucher you buy. I will continue to try and use Flight Centre for bookings given the discounts to take advantage of.
Thanks for the info. I can get 3% via AGL rewards, but how do you get the $50 bonus as that is 10%?
Found it. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/347914
I am pretty If it’s on the au website they will match/beat by one dollar , as long as originates in oz
