Thoughts on Nick Kyrgios Form Can He Keep It Up?

Nick Kyrgios' form is exceptional this year. He is doing very well, so can he keep it up for future Grand Slam tournaments? Or will he fade in the background like tennis players do.

Saying that is Alex De Minaur the next Aussie sensation for Australian tennis?

Nick.. Who thinks he is the coolest person on earth?

  • -3

    Nick who?

  • +13

Nick and Tomic have a lot to learn from Rafter. Tennis used to be a gentleman's sport and their attitude towards the game means a lot of people don't care. Bad role models all round.

    • +2

Tennis used to be a gentleman's sport

Safin was way more animated than either and went on to win 2 slams. Or McEnroe to name a few.

      • +1

Did you see Tomic's last post-game interview?

I just count money, that’s all I do, I count my millions. You go make $13 or $14 million. Good luck, bye.

Safin and McEnroe had passion for the game.

        • Plenty of players like that, they just don't admit it. Davydenko is a recent one that comes to mind that did admit it.

        • @neil: Yeah I don't like him either.

        • +1

Not sure if either of those players were raised to make money from tennis, or whether they had the passion for winning.

Tomic has been pretty open that Tennis is just a job for him, and he was raised to work the career. I don't really see How him going to his job which he is good at, but miserable, is any different to any other person working a job they hate but provides them with the best money based on their available skillsets… Except that most of us who go to work and are miserable didn't have our career designated to us by our parents before we hit double digits.

        • -1

@Cubist: most people also don’t have a job they hate that will pay millions in a few years, enough for ‘normal’ people to live on for a lifetime.

        • @Euphemistic: society values his skill at his job higher than your skill at your job. That's not his fault, get angry at society if that frustrates you.

        • @Cubist: I don't care that he earns more than I, just that he acts like a spoiled brat - and he's got no reason to complain.

        • +1

@Euphemistic: He's skillful enough at his job to continue to work it and continue to deliver results that keep him in the top 150 in the world at his profession. You say he's spoiled, but how many people are achieving that level of success? If you worked a full time job that started before you hit double digits, you'd probably be burnt out and disinterested too.

        • -1

@Cubist: Exactly, he's skillful at his job. He is at the top of the tree and he's still carrying on like a spoiled brat.

        • @Euphemistic:

Spoilt applies if you are receiving a hand me down role in a family business. Maybe perform as high as he does in a single professional aspect of your life and then comment on how spoilt he is. Let me know.

        • @Cubist: You can carry on like a spoiled brat despite not actually being spoiled. Notice I said 'acting like'

      • There is always Croquet.

    • Nick and Tomic need to take lessons from Ilie Năstase.

    Where's the bargain??

        Reported to scotty.

        • +2

He already knows where the bargains are.

          Wut???

    Tosser.

His temperament this season has been good. It is like he has turned a corner - and I hope most of us wish he will stay that way. It looks like he is slowing maturing.

Regardless of him being a knob, people want to see that side of him. It is what draws crowds - his shot making and his personality.

He has one of the best serves of any player on the ATP tour - it is accurate as shown by the Dimitrov match yesterday. Apart from that, he could do with a coach.

  • -6

    Jamie Zhu is 10x hotter.

Really not a big fan of Nick for his tantrums.

    • Hahahahaha!!!

      • Too bad they took offence. Both are serious comments.

  • Can he keep it up? Maybe he needs to look for some cialis bargains

  • +1

well back then we thought Hewitt was a knob, now he's a legend! David Warner, the list goes on
hes young, he just needs to knuckle down and juts focus on tennis!

    • +6

This is true and I have hope that Nick will be able to mature and turn out to be a great ambassador for Australian tennis.

Bernard Dumbic though.. I'd be happy to see him run out of his millions one day.

  • He is doing very well, so can he keep it up for future Grand Slam tournaments? Or will he fade in the background like tennis players do.

What sets him apart from previous Australian players who fizzled is his serves which are probably one the best in the game (currently). As long as he stays uninjured, which comes down to genetics and who he has on his team (needs a coach) looking out for him, he should be continue to be in the top 30.

    • +3

the poo had a great serve too!

  • Can't keep it up. That's why he's so cranky.

  • +5

    Don't know, don't care.

  • -5

NK is a fkn legend. Hope he can crush a couple of slams to silence all the haters. The other players respect/fear his talent. They're in trouble if he can keep the body tip top.

    • and his attitude in check.

      • +2

That is his play style, he feeds off his attitude. When you watch him play, something he gets upset about, be it how he played a point or something his opponent does. the next serve 5 seconds later he blasts a ace 220 km/h down the line. That is a skill and a bloody good one.

    • -1

Just winning games will never silence the haters. He needs to show some good sportsmanship and respect for the crowds before any of your haters will respect him.

By the way, Haters is a term 12-14 year old girls use to describe people who don't like them. People who live in the real world know this term is meaningless.

      • +5

He won Brisbane international and everyone was talking about his ability and not his antics.
The crowds need to show some more respect for the game. He has every right to call them out for the stupid stuff they do mid rally or serve.
Sorry I must not live in the real world, apologies for having the vocabulary of a 12-14 yr old girl (very specific) dogboy..

  • +1

the kid should learn to keep his mouth shut

  • +13

He's like 22, if he continues with this new 2018 attitude, no one will remember the tantrums in a few years times with a title or 2 under his belt.

I believe there was plnety of haters for Hewitt too when he was young, people thought he was cocky and arrogant. I think Kyrios has started to turn around, took the Davis Cup seriously last year and was awesome against Gofin, can't say his heart wasn't in it then, he gave it his all…

    Tomic is a lost cause.

    • +2

"I just count money, that's all I do. I count my millions," Tomic said. "You go do what I did [on court]. Bye bye."

    • +2

Yes Nick seems to be working on his attitude. If he can fix it up long term, things will be looking up.

      Tomic is toxic.

  • The top 25 ranked players are all talented and very good. What sets them apart and makes them successful in winning grand slams is there mental fitness, commitment to hard work and never give up attitude.

Unfortunately Nick doesn't have all this so he will never win a grand slam

  • Djokovic has been out for 6 months, lets see if he still has his fire in tonights tennis match! The New Crocodile!

Novak, has done the impossible defeated Rafa, at his best on clay, defeated Roger at his best on hard courts, no other player in the history of tennis has destroyed No1 and No.2 in the same era!

    • +1

To get to No.1 you have to beat No.1 and No.2?

  • Nick has definite mental state issues. He may mask them when not overstressed, but otherwise it is obvious (like in his last game).
In my opinion, the mental desease won't let him progress too far and make his conditions even worse.

  • +3

He looks like an annoying high school bully that hit puberty way too early. I was cheering for the other guy

  • Aussies love battlers. He is not a battler. when the going gets tough, he crumbles. Him and Tomic.

The worst part is that they have such lousy attitude. They are so unaustralian.

    • Un-Australian, you say? If the post-match interviews by players and coaches of sports like cricket, rugby, football, tennis, etc. are anything to go by, whingeing, and poor sportsmanship, IS the Australian way. It's always the fault of the umpire, the referee, the linesman, the partisan crowd, or the sporting organisation, innit?

      • +1

Yeah I think the hate has more to do with their 'backgrounds' if he was a 'true' aussie he would be a larakin!

    • It's a gen Y attitude.

Things don't go my way or I'm bored, give up.

  • He needs a coach but he is too stupid to get one. He thinks is he can go on doing his own thing. That will be what holds him back.

    • Federer spent most of his early career (including his big rise up the rankings to Top 10) without a coach…

      • When you are off the rails, you n Ed s mentor. Whether or not that is a coach - who knows. NYbe he has been using a sports psychologist.

No matter what, he needs someone to help his fame tactics as he doesn’t know everything. Someone has to watch his game yo analyse what he needs to work on.

Federer has an early. Such snd md for sci died in a car accident. That whole expweience shaped his mental fortitude and resolve and his in court behaviour. He became the man he is today because If that early work snd that tragedy.

Nobody can do it alone. I am not a fan of parent coaches either.

  • Bikies

  • He'll have to get on the dope like Rafa, Novak, Federer etc. if he's ever gonna be number 1.

  • Jamie Zhu is a douche bag.

    • +1

The more you talk about him the better for him. Ignoring is best.

  • The only form I saw of Nick was him whinging to Casper the ghost :P
I guess my thoughts of him hasn't changed at all 'MUD!'

  • +1

I am not interested in any kids that chucks tantrums. Even if he makes it to be world number 1 I couldn't care less.

  • -6

Go back to where your parents came from lmao

    • -Dawn Fraser ("legend")

  • +1

By "form" do you mean his form in tantrums and keeping up his inflated ego?

  • Nick's on the right track, should go alright in the other slams, maybe a bit off winning a slam yet but still a work in progress. Next step is to cement his ranking in the top 10 so he doesn't play the likes of Dimitrov/Big 4 etc. till the quarters/semis.

Personally think that him trying to give himself a purpose in starting his foundation is genuine and will go some way towards helping his mental issues.

De Minaur needs to work on a first serve that can get him free points otherwise he'll burn out way too fast. His work ethic is great and all but it was clear by the end of Sydney he was already tired from all the ball chasing he's been doing.

  • +3

mfw all comments are middle aged professionals butthurt that a young ethnic kid is raking in 5 times more than what they make

    • +2

Not to mention being vastly more successful in his career than they are in theirs.

  • +1

Sporting ability does not excuse a poor attitude and bad behaviour.

    • +1

If he was a soccer or football player no one would bat an eyelid. Just because golf and tennis is a conservative white sport doesn't mean the athletes need to act in the way the audience wants. Similar to how NBA players having multiple partners whilst being married not being a big deal, but Tiger Woods getting his entire sponsorship and career destroyed because of having a side missus.

      • For Tiger Woods, it wasn't a big deal for many years and he had numerous mistresses. It was an Open Secret until the day his ex-wife hit him over the head with a golf club. Then, it was open season for the tabloid media.
