I haven't had a new television in about 20 years! So I am rather lost in this market, my budget is around $650. I would love for Ozbargainers to provide me with some quality recommendations?
Criteria:
55inch
4k
~$650

Perhaps OP should check out the Aldi sale for next 20 years :)
Okay okay, I get it - my budget is low. However I dont need the highest quality, just seeking the most bang for my buck.
(If anyone is willing to negotiate with my wife for more money towards the tv-budget that would be greatly appreciated! LOL)
never go for the bottom, you're being screwed in a lot of areas for that to be cheap.
Its most likely you wont last a few years without issues too
If you want a "Real" 4K TV, at this stage you have to start from at least $1000 for an entry level.
This TV would be the bare minimum IMO:

OP, be good to your wife, and save some more money and get this. You don't want a crappy tv for next 20years of your life :)
If he gets this model, he may be successful of obtaining a great lifespan hence can hand this TV over to his future generations that may last for around 120 years. Therefore life (and further life) will be good = LG
Any thoughts on Kogan televisions? These meet the critiera

They are fine, only problem is the inbuilt speakers are subpar. Nothing a sound bar can't fix

Daughter has a 55" Hisense great TV gets excellent reviews and has 3 year warranty.

PYE TV,
1968 - B&W Wood-grain cabinet TV with Electron Tubes :-)
With those massive channel dials, that clunk when you turn them.
Smack the side of the TV to get a better reception when the signal gets lost.
20 years? So still using a CRT? I think not!
I hope OP have a sony trinitron wega tv ;)
Great TVs in their days…..
Wow, you would think that all the money you saved by not having a TV for 20 years you could increase your budget by a bit! LOL
