Need Advice on Applying for Credit Card For QFF

Hi all,

At the moment I only have one credit card which I received 3 years ago when I got my mortgage with NAB. Currently using NAB's qantas rewards platinum credit card (https://www.nab.com.au/personal/banking/credit-cards/nab-qan…) with the annual $395 fee waived due to the mortgage. However as of Feb, their getting rid of the issued AMEX card which means I earn QFF at a lower rate.

I'm looking to sign up for the NAB Qantas Rewards Signature Card (https://www.nab.com.au/personal/banking/credit-cards/nab-qan…) and apparently after I sign up, I can then cancel the first card and then get this card's annual fee waived due to having a mortgage with NAB.

so, questions:-
- Upon signing up, how soon does the $395 annual fee get charged? Is that typically something that happens at the start of a credit card sign up, or at the end of a 12 month period?
- I have 0 credit debit, just a mortgage, and positive savings. I dont think I've applied for anything that needed a credit check in the last 12 months. What is the likelihood of successfully signing up to TWO credit cards at the same time? Looking at ANZ's credit card with 75,000 QFF as well. I'm really just after the QFF points. I never really took advantage of signing up/cancelling cards to make use of these free points over the years and wanna start getting into it.
- I shouldn't have a problem with the minimum amount spent required as I got a few large bills to pay. However, just in case I run into issues, I read somewhere you could always paypal yourself an invoice and pay for it to get around that requirement? But doesn't that involve paypal fees?
- How often do you guys generally sign up to new credit cards to make use of the free points on offer? I assume once or twice every 6 months or something?

Comments

  • Annual free usually gets charged pretty much straight away. You'll be fine with applying for two cards at once

  • I was in a similar situation. Spoke to someone at NAB to change the package card to the signature, the $395 annual fee was charged within the first month, called again for the charge to be reversed.

  • "Offer is not available when closing/transferring from another NAB credit card account or in conjunction with any other NAB offer"

You should probably contact NAB to find out their exact definition of "transferring".
