Cheapest Place to Get an OMEGA Watch in Sydney?

Hi all, per the title, I am currently looking to buy an Omega watch for myself. Tried to info online but not much luck. A lot of people was saying that Omega is very hard to get discount on from both boutiques or authorised dealer. Any help or connect to get the cheapest would be appreciated. Watch I am looking at: https://www.omegawatches.com/watch-omega-seamaster-aqua-terr…. Part number: 220.10.38.20.03.001. Currently I'm around 50/50 between buying or not but if I do, it will be in the next week or so as I have overseas trip coming early Feb. Thanks!

  • Where are you travelling to? Usually better prices overseas, particularly if going via HK, Singapore or Japan.

    • I'll be off to US for work and then Quebec (Canada) for a bit. The USD price + the tax will kill it even though we are getting better against it. Canada would be good in terms of exchange rate but still haven't found any local pricing yet.

      • Drive down to New Hampshire (tax-free)?

        • +1

Not doable at this point since the US trip is just for work and we are quite out in the burbs. Thanks though!

  • get a replica watch for a good price instead. At the US$400 mark, the difference is impossible to tell even by a long-time owner of an Omega.

    • +1

That is enticing for sure but I am the type who don't really buy much but buy the best that I really want. Thanks though for the advice.

How do you define best? A large chunk of a Swiss watch price is branding. You take away that & there's not much difference between a quality replica & genuine article. Hell they even use the ETA movement in the reps now. I can break it down even further

        • Yes I do understand that those kind of watch are expensive because of the name. Heck it is even worse for something that is mass produced like the model I'm looking for. But, I don't shop much myself and I don't mind splurge a bit to get something that I really want but still within reasons hence why I am asking. Anything you buy is only worth by how much you are willing to pay and it is different from person to person right? :)

        • +1

          No resale value on fakes.

    • Where can I find some nice replica Watches?

  • If you're not necessarily looking for a new watch, try Chrono24. They have mint pre-owned pieces that you may be able to buy for up to 30% less.

Thanks for the link! Unfortunately I can't go that one as it is way too big for my small wrist…

      • The lugs don't stick out as much as some watches, and 41mm is not particularly large.

        • +1

Really? I read that AT feels bigger than its actual size due to the lugs. I have 1 in 41mm and that is like maximum for me. I'll give it a try when I get to the shop. Thanks!

        • @Mozz13: You may as well give it a try when you can.

    • Uhmm..not sure if WatchMaxx (grey market dealer) will under value items. In addition, there's always at least a 10-15% discount from MSRP.

  • haven't checked but i believe shum's in chinatown sell omega
from some other readings 15% is doable
add in trs and it's not too bad

not many other ADs in syd as there is the actual omega store in martin place. they might do deals too… =)

i was looking at a similar one, but now that there's all these new watches after sihh… decisions!

    • I'm thinking for Shum as well. Just need to find time and go there to haggle a bit. Which other one are you looking at?

  • What other higher end watches do you have?
Ask them how much the servicing costs will be and also where they are done ( some Swiss are sent OS, meaning you don't have a watch for quite a while)
Servicing the automatics is fairly expensive.

    • +1

Not sure if it can be considered high end but I have the Tag Heuer carrera caliber 7 dual time which is 41mm. Good point for the servicing. Surely you would think market like AUS must have a local servicing center, no? I serviced my Tissot after 4+ years of use and it was less than $100 (a quartz) if I remembered correctly and it was sent to Melbourne.

      • No, not all are serviced here. But I don't know what brands.
A quartz watch should really be minimal cost, austomatics though…

Swiss Concept on Pitt. Got 20% off last time

    • Really? Thanks! I'll give it a look. :)

They have a far less busy branch at Hurstville - bizarrely, 2 doors away from where I get my $7 haircuts - I thought I was dreaming. Might 25% off be possible there?

  • Hi mate,

I'm pretty close to buying an omega myself and have thought for a long time about the cheapest way to get it.

Pretty sure this is the cheapest if you're okay with a grey market watch (authentic but without omega warranty):

    1. Buy from Jomashop.
    2. Deliver to an address in the US seeing as you're going there to avoid Aus customs tax.

If you have time… wait for a 10%-15% ebay sitewide discount and do the above steps, but buy from the Jomashop ebay store.

If you're worried about not having an omega warranty, the way I view it is if you follow the above steps you'll do about $1k-2k better than buying from an AD… with that saving, IF there is an issue with the watch you can take it and get it serviced by omega to fix any problems.

Please feel free to let me know if anyone sees any flaws in the above or if anyone has an even cheaper way!

Good luck and let me know how you go!

I also live in Sydney, so if you do go to an AD, let me know.. maybe if we go together they'll give us a better discount for 2 watches! I'm after the Omega Seamaster Professional 300m Blue Dial 41mm.

    Cheers,
    Marc

    • Thanks man! I'll keep you posted on how I go and when after I go visit a couple of the ADs just to ask some pricing for yours and mine. Looking to go to Shums and Swiss Concept. Just to confirm, the one you are looking at is this: https://www.omegawatches.com/watch-omega-seamaster-diver-300…?

      • +1

That's the one. I'm also considering this one which is very similar to what you're after.

          $7,250.00
          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Omega-Seamaster-Aqua-Terra-Me…
          $4,743.16 - 5% code PICK5 = $4,506.00 + $87.49 Expedited International Shipping = $4,593.49

          @PJC:

Thanks PJC. I think in an AD you'd be doing very well to get the $7,250 down to $5,800 (20% discount), then take tax off via the TRS and you land at approx. $5,200.

If you go via Watchmaxx on eBay, wait for a 10% sitewide sale and ship the watch to a US address then you should pay approx US3,795 = AUD4,740 less 10% discount $4,270.

Essentially you save ~$1k by not getting the Omega warranty, but my argument is if the watch is faulty then you can use that saving to fix it. However, most of the time the watch will be fine so you'll simply save $1k.

          What do you guys think?

        • +2

@cramjo: This watch is a long-term investment which will likely become a family heirloom. With maintenance it should work a century after the warranty period. So keep the price as low as possible, because you still have PayPal protection anyway.

        • +1

          @PJC:

Agreed - one of my Omegas is now 52-ish years old and has has been serviced once in that period. Parts still available, works perfectly.

  • I bought my Aqua Terra from an official factory dealer in the US a few years ago for an unbeatable price. My mate bought his Aqua Terra from the Omega Boutique watch shop at Haneda Airport in japan on the way back from Skiing for about $2K less than the local price. if you are open to 2nd hand have a look at this site where watch collectors often buy and sell. I would check out the seller before sending any $$ overseas. i have sold a few Swiss Autos via the WUS forums 2nd hand. You can normally haggle/make an offer with private sellers. https://www.watchrecon.com/

  • As an update, I ended up buying my omega SMP 300 blue watch! In Sydney, RRP is $5,300 AUD. I bought It from Watchmaxx's ebay store for $2565USD, then applied a 10% discount code + 1% CR. Ended up paying ~$3,000AUD.

I sent the watch to my sister in the States to avoid import duty / GST & will pick it up later in the year. Can't wait!!

    • Ah mate. Congrats on the new piece! Stunning watch. Saw it myself though I'd probably wait a bit more till July for the new SMP to hit the store. If only I have bigger wrist size, I'd have much more options. I also ended up buying a diver watch instead of the AT. I settled with the new Oris Aquis 39.5mm. Got the first unit in Singapore while I still need to wait for it to hit AUS. Fits my wrist nicely. Happy with my purchase. Cheers!

      • Congrats on your purchase too!

Yeah I love everything about the new SMP except the new wave design… just feels like there's too much going on in the dial. Plus I didn't like the price jump either Lol! I think the new one is about $1k more.
