Problem with Samsung Phone... What options I have?

I have an SGS 7 which is still under warranty. I went to Samsung store and they said they it needs replacement of motherboard ,since the phone cannot even boot up.
Though the phone had things like 2FA using Google Authenticator, I was bit skeptical initially but since I dont have any other phone I have to go for it.

Just want to know does it generally works this way that Samsung can repair it rather than replacing it ? (First timer here)
What other possible options do I have . Can I ask for a different phone instead of a major repair ?

Comments

  • tell them replace or refund(major fault)

    • it is a galaxy s7 (not sure if they will do that) . Any tips on what I can do in order to push for that ?

I had a Note 3 and it died three times and been replaced three times.

At the last visit, it had a single green vertical strip on the screen and the young customer service person was waffling about getting it repaired. I said to him that you might offer warranty, however I don't want to constantly waste time and petrol for issues coming to your store over a junk phone. Therefore he replaced it.

Don't forget, that this (S7) phone was a $1000+ new so push for a replacement. You shouldn't be travelling 20 times to the store over rubbish. As we have time for that these days!
If he hasn't got the phone then ask for an equivalent S8 or better.

Samsung is an innovative product however reliability is another issue IMO.

        Cheers

        • The guy told me about motherboard replacement which can be done in 1-2 days . They have the replacement motherboard available as well.
Ask me frankly , I dont want to go for repair as I doubt it wont be good enough , the whole reason why I thought I should ask here.

        • @urahara: Did you purchase the phone directly from Samsung?

@jewe1s: No. I was with Vodafone. Was getting extended warranty of 2 years instead of 1 with Samsung.
BTW I went and asked for a swap and with few hiccups sure indeed they exchanged it with another one. Thanks mate

        • @urahara:
          Samsung warranty is 2 years.
And FYI repairs done through Vodafone repair centre needed n Samsung devices are always replacement devices.
(HTC on the other hand always repair)

Just recently my sister had the motherboard replaced through Samsung warranty on her galaxy s7. It took them less then a week to do. It was a really painless experience and the phone worked great once it was repaired.

    • Good to know this.Thanks

    TIme to get an iPhone

    • The only time when I'll do that is when my privacy is in sure danger.

  • Major fault = repair, replace or refund

  • They have the right to repair. They don't necessarily have to replace. Sometimes it can depend on the rep as well.

    • Not sure if that is the case with major repairs (Also if it takes time) , you can swap it .Saw it on Vodafone website as well.

All sorted, got a replacement phone, told the rep that it has intermittent motherboard issues and hence I would like to replace it instead of fixing the existing one.
Another pro tip is that if you are with a carrier ask for a receipt/document from Samsung, so that your replaced phone can have additional 6 months warranty.
Since I had to update the IMEI , I went to Vodafone store and they told me to go back to Samsung guys and get that document. The Samsung rep initially try to fake around with their system and said they dont have it , but when I insisted that they can give me a signed document with IMEI written on it, he gave up and came with nice printouts from the back.
So now though my phone warranty gets over in few months I will still be bit more covered thanks to this replacement.

    • Cool thanks for the information. I had a issue where my tab S2 home button keeps on getting stuck, it's also positioned on a irregular angle. I had it replaced after having LCD display issues. They fixed it up but they didn't reseal the screen so now it keeps on popping out. Not sure if I should go get it fixed. Already been past a year since I bought I but was fixed 4 months ago.

I hope that's not a common occurrence. I'm about to take a tab S2 in for a screen replacement.

        • They didn't even bother to glue it back. But I have a case on all the so it doesn't come out. Tell me how it goes.

        • @BrodenIt: It didn’t go at all. Took it in this morning but they wouldn’t send it in for repair unless I paid upfront. No option to pay on pick up apparently.
