BeyerDynamic DT990 Pro 250 Ohm - £96.46 /AU $167.27 Delivered @ Amazon UK

180

Cheapest these have been in quite a while. Some may prefer buying locally for $200 - $220. Amazon UK returns/warranty process is pretty painless though, just won’t be as quick as local in the event you need to make a warranty claim (which you shouldn’t, Beyerdynamic are brilliant and still made in Germany).

These aren’t particularly easy to drive, you will need a decent amp to get the most out of them.

I recently purchased headphones through Amazon UK, and they arrived 10 days ahead of the estimated arrival date.

Edit: Deal marked expired but stock available at higher price.

  • Almost bought these last time but i settled with the 600ohm ones instead. I wish they made the pro look into the 600ohm ones. Not a huge fan of the 609ohm aesthetics. But its very comfy though.

  • Would these be ok for plugging into the headphone port on my receiver (Denon AVR-X2000) or does it need more power?

    • No. It won't have the proper ohm output power through the headphone port on that receiver. It's only designed for low ohm headphones. You need a proper headphone amp to drive these. For example a 600 ohm headphone amp will do.

  • I've got one of these. And i drive it on my computers motherboard onboard sound but it's an Asrock Purity Sound 2 (Realtek ALC1150) with a 600 ohm headphone amp.

Damn good deal and great cans. Just pair with a decent amp.

  • Philips Fidelio X2HR $237.60 is much better for a little more.

    • -2

1 left in stock and that's it. There was only 2 units available today to begin with. I would say that is very limited stock.

    • +2

Totally different sound signatures. Audio is very subjective once you get away from the cheaper consumer stuff. I had the X2’s, I sold them within s couple of weeks. Far too dark for my liking.

    • Sound are very subjective matter. Plus the beyers are made in germany compared to the philips where they use glue for the ear cups. From build quality alone, the beyers wins.

      • +1

The glued pads on the Fidelio’s was a QC issue when manufacturing changed over from Woox to Gibson. They were never meant to be glued, but several batches were in a manufacturing error. But you make a good point on build - the Beyers are made in Germany (Fidelios made in China) and almost all parts are replaceable. They’re rock solid and their pads are the most comfortable I’ve ever used.

  • Would an Asus Xonar Sound card be enough to drive these ?

    • +1

No. Neither the Xonar DG, DGX or DX has a headphone amp capable of properly driving these headphones. This requires at least a 250 ohm headphone amp to properly run these.

    • Xonar essence stx can accept up to 600ohm.

  • Can I use my sound blaster E1 to amp this?

    • +1

E1 is capable of 600ohm, so yes.

  • Great headphones. Anyone know if the wire is coiled or not?

    • I have one and it's a coiled wire.

      • What amp/s do you use?

        • Just the computers onboard Asrock Purity Sound 2 (Realtek ALC1150 DAC) 600 ohm headphone amp.

    • 3 meter coiled cable. And they’re now $150 using the Amazon code posted today by Spackbase (£10 off).
