Quality Printer Recommendations from Officeworks. $500 or So

G'day everyone.
My folks gave our daughter a printer for her graphic arts at Xmas and it was really nice of them, but it's not really good for the high quality printing she needs to do. She needs to print in a high quality on gloss paper from what I can understand.

Officeworks are happy to refund it if she uses the refund to get a replacement via them

Just wondering if anyone is familiar with the higher quality printers sold by them and if there are any recommendations.
I would say the budget is around the $500.00 - $550.00 mark.

I can search printers at that value myself, but I'd really appreciate some first hand recommendations from anyone that actually knows about any of the models.
Hope that makes sense.

Thanks very much.

  • Hi,

    Is A4 or A3 required?

    • Ah, I did not think of asking that. Apologies.
I would assume A4 is enough if I understand things correctly. She's mainly printing stuff in smaller sizes at the moment.

I will ask her when she gets get home.
Thanks for taking the time to reply.

  • Some prosumer style printers check out:
Canon Pro 100 - well regarded
Epson XP-15000 - Looks good in limited reviews so far. New release. Fits your budget.

  • ^I recommend Canon Pro series for professional use.

Also check the ink cartridges cost.

What printer did your folks gave your daughter? What kind of graphic arts is she making?
What made you think that the printer your folks gave her is not good enough?
Have you tried printing using a gloss paper using the printer she was given?

I am assuming she's still young/in school/uni since she is not buying her own printer?
If she knows and cares about stuff like ICC colour profiles and monitor calibration then go with the Canon Pro series.
Otherwise any budget inkjet printer will do. Make sure you check the DPI it supports.
Gloss paper is the magic, not the printer.
