I'm after personal finance software for my family.
Ideally:
- SaaS based (so that it is accessible across various devices - Windows, Mac, Android)
- Gives multiple logins (myself and my other half)
- Ability to do automatic category (it would be if you can do custom category)
- Ability to sync the data with AUS banks
- Aus based / data center (see below reason)
Couple of financial services that I'm about to try:
- MoneyWiz
- Boomeringo
- MoneyBrilliant
- PocketSmith
- YNAB (You Need a Budget)
- GetPocketBook
- MoneyManagerEx
Questions:
1) As I want to make it automated (no need to do a manual import of the monthly report); what can I do to make sure my online banking credentials are secured?
I guess there is nothing? consider I supply my bank login to third-party?
The alternative method that I can think of is, request the bank to provide an additional read-only login with limited access (not sure whether they are willing to do this)
2) I noticed that a couple of ozb are using YNAB, my question is, why? looks like they are based in US, which means, if our account compromised, we are dependent to US law; my preference is to be AU based, so that if it is compromised, legally / by law, I'm protected better (as I'm reside in AUS)
What do you think?
YNAB used to be a desktop install before it went cloud. There's a lot of us who swear by it.
I won't give up my license key for the desktop version. No interest in forking over for a monthly subscription when it can't do automated imports either.
IANAL…Check with your bank as to whether you're covered. You may (likely) find by disclosing your username and password, you have no coverage.
