lol looks like I need a new keyboard. It was $800

        • ;)

  • why the price is dropping!!! (happy about it but just wondering)

    • Version 2 is out, this is a clearance of Version 1.

      • Version 2 has been out for 1.5-2 years or so.

  • Can it hold a GoPro?

    • It has 14MP stabilised video built in, plus 8Gb non-expandable storage.

  • Add on $19 min for shipping

  • Reviews not glowing - but at this price a better value proposition I guess. Wouldn't mind a drone but might hold off.

  • The yellow one is $95 if you don't mind the colour.

Ok, so I'm seriously considering getting this. I've been contemplating a DJI Spark for ages, and while it's obviously much better, I just can't justify the spend right now.

So, is this worth a play, being that it's my first drone, and my requirments/expectations aren't very high? I don't need night, can probably live with the short fly time, and will most likely just use my tablet for control.

Or, is there something newer that's much better bang for buck, but closer to this price than the DJI Spark?

    Thanks!

    • I own the MJX Bugs 2W and it is a pretty good drone and has very good reviews as well. Probably one of the best bang for bucks if you can get it on a promotion. The promo happens every now and then and at the last promo it was $174 shipped (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/354011)

    • Do you want to have a fun/sporty fly around, or do you want to do some aerial cinematography?

My Bebop just arrived and I think it's fantastic for the price. My OnePlus One doesn't have any issues with the ranges I've tested it with (though so far I haven't gone out beyond 100m or so). The camera is mediocre compared to the Spark, but much better than other drones in the price range and the video stabilization works perfectly. This is probably the cheapest drone you can buy without the camera being absolutely useless for casual cinematography. FPV works great too.

The drone is significantly larger than I expected (I wasn't expecting a Spark sized drone, but still) and because of the non-folding blades (and the fact that the blades need a tool to remove and attach), this is quite a bit less baggable and portable than I would've liked. Indoor use is pretty much a no-no. For some reason, the app no longer has an "indoors" mode that disables GPS as it's supposedly smart enough to detect that you're inside. My drone went haywire inside and lunged for the TV, though thankfully there was no damage as I had put the drone's bumpers on.

Battery wise, on my windy first flight, it only lasted 7 mins before I landed it at 20% battery. I've ordered a $30 double capacity battery which hopefully doubles the flight time, but I feel like most batteries will be old stock and might be garbage.

I haven't tested the Sky controller since it hasn't arrived yet, but I'm expecting it to be uselessly large for travelling. For stunt flying the drone has a sports mode, but it doesn't let you control the drone's attitude directly.

Overall, the Bebop sits in a weird place. I'd buy this over a Bugs or Hubsan because of the stabilized video, assuming you care about that, but the cheaper drones are much better value for stunt flying/racing. And for video, Whilst the Spark is a whole other price tier, it's still probably worth to save for a Spark if you want a drone for cinematography.

  • The price for the drone has now gone up from $155 to $171
