  • I read the title as 92.20Kg air circulator..

    • haha sorry

Is an air circulator just another word for a fan?

    • Fan head pivots up to 90° so i suppose yes

      • Sorry, why is it so expensive for a fan ?

        • +4

          transferring air with styles

Sorry, why is it so expensive for a fan ?

I don't think there's a real reason why these can't be cheaper (apart from profit), but it does work differently to a normal fan.

The idea is that air from a normal fan will get diffused more quickly while air from a circulator like this would be more directional (like a fluid vortex going down a drain pipe), and would travel farther. If you aim it into the corner of a room, there should be greater overall air movement around the room.

Alternatively if you're the only one in the room, you could just aim it directly at yourself and get a stronger blast from a smaller fan. At least with a Vornado anyway - not sure how other brands fare.

Also known as a air current inducing apparatus.

      • +1

Surely you mean a open radial fluid pump though?

      • +2

Silly me, I thought it was an pressure-delta induced air particle transport generator.

Though in my youth, it was nicknamed 'fan'.

This is like 2 fans in one.

  • +1

how does this compare to a Vornado?

    • +4

Can't really compare this to a Vornardo. I have tried both, and this one is rather weak in terms of airflow.

      • +1

You said you can't compare it, and then you compared it :P

Thanks though, I was wondering this too.

        • An apples to oranges comparison, even if you do

        • @Cleartripe:

Wouldn't it be like comparing a good apple with a bad apple ?

        • @smashed:
That would be my understanding. They're both air circulators.

      • +1

        Cheers!

Waiting for the energy efficient DC models of Vornado to come to Australia!

      • which Vornado did you compare with? 533 or 660? can you also share the information about the noise level between the two brand please.

        • +1

Vornardo 533. Undoubtedly, Vornado is noisier compared to this, but again, it goes to being a background, white noise which you'd stop noticing soon enough.
While not being as noisy as Vornado, Dimplex too does have a bit of noise

Is there something different about this "fan" to a $5 from kmart?

    • +2

Kmart sells $5 notes? Do they go on sale?

      • doubt the $5 fan will produce much air flow.

family got 1 for like $15-20.. it's in the bin already.

    • +2

you mean this http://www.kmart.com.au/product/misting-fan/1820401, much bigger and you don't need water you can run the power from your wall and much much more air flow

      • haha funny guys, Id like to know what this $100 fan is? and why its so expensive.

        • buy one then you will find out. there is no much review of this fan online. please share your experience after the purchase.

      • i think he means this one for $12:

        http://www.kmart.com.au/product/40cm-white-pedestal-fan/1546…

i wonder how many $12 fans you'd need to get the same performance as a $95 fan. it's a lot extra to pay for what appears to be just a bit of extra cowling and a different blade profile.

        • I don't think a $12 fan is a fair comparison. Those cheap pedestal fans are really flimsy and take up a lot of space. The legs go wonky, and the oscillation eventually fails (thuk.. thuk.. thuk..), then the bearings wear out.

Of course, there are ~$30-40 fans that are better built which would more fairly compete against a circulator like this one or a Vornado.

I used to have a Vornado but swapped it for a tower fan when it seemed to slow down after a few years. With the tower fan I have to direct it at myself, with the Vornado I can aim it above me and I'll feel cooler without having wind blowing directly at me. If I really want to cool down I can just aim it directly at me. And when the room is really hot it can help move around the cold air from an air conditioner too.

  • This one is a couple of dollars cheaper (including postage) than one for sale on Amazon.com.au which looks like normal price. See here: https://www.amazon.com.au/Dimplex-DCACM20-Circulator-Cooling… So if anyone misses out on the one from eBay then they can get it from Amazon.
