Hi

first time poster, short time reader.

just wondering what people would recommend as the best TV for mainly gaming with PS4 Pro and watching Netflix.

does not have to be a specific brand. just best quality and price available.

Thanks

The LG 55" OLED B7T. It was on sale @ Boxing Day for $1699 GG special however jacked back up to $2495.
I was at GG's the other day and the sales rep said that he could do it for $1888. I'm not sure if that price will still be honoured. It's worth a try.

I use it for PC 4K gaming and it is fantastic.

    Cheers

    • Thanks vinni9284

yeah the B7T looks like a good unit, i might have a look around and see what i price i can get.

  • This TV may be good. It has HDR, and it is 4K. Looks good, especially under $1000.

  • Get LGs, do not get Samsung. Some of the low to mid range Samsung TVs falsely advertise HDR but in fact the panels are not 10bit nor have wide color gamut which is a fraud. To my knowledge, Samsung is the only one doing this practice.

    • I am not sure of the PS4 HDR output but I have an LG OLED B7. It has Native HDR10 and it only hits HDR8 when I connect it to my GTX1080.
Why is that? Because @ 4K @ 60Hz, 4:4:4 Chroma only can display HDR8 and not HDR10 due to the limitations of the Bandwidth of HDMI2.0a (of the TV, although the GTX1080 is HDMI2.0b) <= 18Gbps.

      Edit: You will get HDR10, 4K @ 60Hz; 4:2:0 chroma.

You need larger bandwidth to support full chroma @ 10Bit.

I am not sure of the Samsung that I have posted above, if it supports HDR 10 however even if you get the LG, you will have limitations.
Having said that, I have 2 x LG's and I am very happy with them at this stage.
The IPS panels have slight DSE though.
But tbh, for the price, the LG JB Hifi LG634T seems like the better unit.

      Cheers

      • MU6103 does not have wide color gamut according to rting.com

        • Ok. I agree with you that IMO, the LG is a better unit.

  • Liking for one in the 65 inch or larger range preferably around 75 inches.

Using for computer and maybe console.

Needs chroma subsampling 4:4:4 and HDR and low input lag and of course 4k.

Avoiding OLED because of burn in I may be leaving it on to just play music sometimes in the background.

Also lower the power consumption the better but definitely bigger than 65 inches I measured it out.

Honestly would go for 80-90" if they sold here for decent price.

    • You can use these revolutionary programs called screen savers to avoid burn in …

      • If you are listening to music once you have it setup and playing just turn off the TV and your amp will continue to play it.

      • You realise while using PC the start menu or menubar is displayed constantly unless you're full-screen app?

      • Not worth the 1% chance of stuff up. Then you just staring at regret. A very expensive regret. Rather go the safe path and get one with no potential burn in problems.

You don’t give any price range. I feel this is another one of the I Should Have Googled It questions.

Don’t get OLED cos burn in is a problem.

Sony is the best brand right now, and consistently scores high on low input lag.

    • I have the B7T and so far not experienced Burn in/image retention issues. I have been using it continously from Boxing Day so nearly 3 weeks, a few hours a day.
I think that there is too much hype on this.
Samsung QLED has not been as successful in sales as the LG OLED.
I am sure many on this site would agree with the OLED is better.
      Cheers

      • "So far"

OLED is still susceptible to burn-in, it's fact. If this dude is playing for 5hrs a day, he'll get minimaps burnt in and have degraded image quality eventually.

In any other circumstance, yeah I'd recommend OLED myself. It's just not the match for primarily gaming and shitty quality Netflix.

        • Well I cannot speak for the future hence the "so far" in my sentence. Tbh, I had it for only 3 weeks.

But then, you can buy another (even this) TV and then 13 months later, you get several dud pixels/dead board etc… How long is a piece of string?

The new OLED TV's now have a function called pixel refresher to improve its reliability. You can use this function at any time that suits.

Having said this, there are many OLED gamers on this site that claim to never have issues with burn in/image retention. They have been playing continuously for a couple of years.

I encourage any feedback from those users if they decide to read.

I assume you don't own one and IMO you're missing out.
Especially, considering that they have dropped by half price over the years.
You're welcome to go to any outlet and ask a salesman about it. They are usually quite honest.

TV's are becoming like mobile phones, that is that they are disposable and update every two years. Well, they are becoming priced similar.
Even if my TV does develop this issue over the years, I will just update LOL. I just being honest. I'll get the next gen HDMI 2.1 … I can't wait!

          Cheers

    • What is the alternative to OLED for non burn in problem.

Sorry slow morning for me today.

      • If you are worried with the OLED image retention/burn-in over-hype, you can go for these.

These TV's have a fast image processing engine/refresh rate.

There has been reports that this LG model has a very thin wafer panel & upon receival/removal from box, damage may occur to the screen. LG will wash their hands of warranty. I guess if you are careful, it may be OK however a heads up.

        • Sweet I have high hopes for the x9000e series. Highly leaning towards a 65" or higher variant. At this stage I am willing to pay a bit of a price premium for the screen real estate.

One day my wall sized "affordable" tv will come .. One day.

      • LCD, but even that can get it. Sony is the best brand in LCD at the moment.
