I doubt that these directly imported from some shop in China are up to Australian electrical standards instead of some thing from an official local Australian distribution chain. I wonder if it might void the house insurance if using this causes an electrical fire and they fine out you installed some non Australian safety standard complaint electrical fitting.

All electrical hard wired installations in AU need to be performed by a licensed electrician. No licensed electrician would install this unit, so if installed, your insurance would definitely be void and you could face hefty fines and be liable for any damage to adjacent properties. It's a gamble to save a few dollars…

  • We need a sale on the wireless version of these

Are you going to risk voiding your home insurance if they find out a fire was caused by a non Australian standards complaint wall switch that was grey imported from China?.

      • "wireless version"

        • -3

Wouldn't that still have a wall switch placed on the wall?.

        • +4

I don't think a wireless switch powered by a CR2032 battery is going to be starting any fires

          @xev:

Yeah i got mixed up. This other one says Wireless Smart Light Control and yet it uses electrical cables to the light switch. But does the wireless control using a remote control to it.

The one you're after just uses a battery power.

That's what I have and a yeelight bulb installed in my light fitting. Also, a piece of tape over the old light switch so that it doesn't get turned off by accident.

        • @newdad:
Note that the Yeelight bulb will be no more compliant than the switch. Can be legally installed by anyone but that doesn't make it compliant.

    • The product details of this says Wireless Smart Light Control?. Must be a different kind of wireless version compared to what you're after.

  • What is the cheapest in wall switch that is Australian compliant? Can someone point me to something, please?

    • Someone posted one last week. Around $150 per switch

    • I don't think any coming from imported from a store in China is going to be Australian AS/NZS3820 compliant. You'll need to buy from a reputable Australian store which sells electrical fittings.

These are pretty cheap but you are going to need a gateway also.

Thanks for the tip! Forgive me for asking a noob question: can I use any Zigbee hub (say, Xiaomi) with these even though they say NUE Zigbee? Is Zigbee a universal protocol? I am willing to experiment a bit, Raspberry Pi, other software stuff). Thank you!

        • +1

unfortunately no! these switches need Nue zigbee gateway.

As far as I can find, you won't be able to use a Xiaomi hub.

The Samsung Smartthings hub is compatible though, according to the link above. When I get mine installed I'll confirm if it works or not.
