      • While more ACCC attention to the Ebay sales would be a positive, I'm sure there is plenty of other inappropriate behaviour out there that gets investigated.

  • It baffles me that some retailers decide to price jack during sales to what… project the idea of grabbing a bargain? The only thing they are generating is negativity for their businesses. Remember, one happy shopper will tell one other person or so, one unhappy customer will tell EVERYONE they know to steer clear.

I've personally refused to buy from pricejackers even when they were the cheapest (including outside of promos/sales) and I hope people will as well to get on top of these jokers and remind them that we aren't just walking wallets.

  • SCMUSIC had Zoom F8 mixer listed at $1384 over the weekend… today $1499. Terrible.

  • +3

Revoking my positive in this deal.. sorry.

All my items in my cart has changed in price…. for the worse.
Local PC stores much better instead now.

I am against price jacking and colluding by many of the PC sellers like JW Computers (alot higher), shopping express clearance (slightly higher), PC Byte (slightly higher for a few)

  • +1

yep everything I wanted was price jacked today. I give up on these ebay tech sales. They are so pointless you end up saving pretty much the same as regular price + 5% coupons

  • Which sellers will actually honor the purchase? Futu cancelled my orders last time, pretending they had no stock.

  • Although I dont condone what the sellers do, I think this happens quite often in the retail space where often the saving is based on RRP. So if its listed on ebay discounted, they raise the price to a point and then apply the discount for what is overall a very small saving at best. I think ebay makes it more transparent when they do this and we can call them out on it. Retailers use every trick in the book to make a sale.

The other thought is who bears the full cost of the discount, if its coming out of the sellers pocket, I dont think they'd be keen to sell something at a loss, otherwise whats the point?

When these sales come along, I usually wait for the site-wide 10-15% sales as those give you more choice in sellers and pick the best competitive price I can find.

  • Had a power bank in my cart for 81, now its 90. What a jib.

  • Looks like I actually bought a phone that wasn't price jacked

    • And my VideoPro purchase wasn't price-jacked :-)

  • Merged from eBay 20% off - Not Showing

I'm trying to buy something in the ebay 20% off sale, but the discount isn't shown anywhere. They're asking me to pay full price.

    what's happening?

  • +7

In case you missed it or don't remember, Kogan got fined $32,400 for pricejacking during an ebay sale.

    https://www.accc.gov.au/media-release/kogan-pays-32400-penal…

Reporting these sellers to the ACCC can make a difference.

    • Good point: report anyone you see!

    • Remember, this is the very same type of price jacking.
Tell anyone who does not think so to ram their BS up their arse!

  • i cant seem to find any bargains for PC parts anyone else?

  • +6

Last night some douchebag at Austin Computers was putting up prices. Clear evidence in price history of this being illicit behavior. The logo for these deceptive criminals includes the phrase "The name you can trust".

Trust them to defraud you Ozbargain.

    • +3

While definitely douchey, it's hardly "illicit" and "criminal".

      • -1

        WRONG!

        • -1

Can you please explain how I'm wrong? If you can refrain from all-caps I'd appreciate it.

        • @johnno07: Read the law, it is a breach of the ACL for a company to deceive or attempt to deceive in regards to price (which having a fake sale is)!

    • Lol wow, they even stole MSY's slogan.

      • And hundreds of other companies, via Google.

  • Does any store have the Logitech G933 for 20% off?

  • Got a Gigabyte 1080 8GB Windforce for $689 from Futu. It's been cheaper in the past, but with the way GPU and RAM pricing is skyrocketting and is looking to to continue to rise over the next few months I figured better buy it and think later. Will be a nice upgrade from my 3GB 1060 that was holding me back in a few VR titles.

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Gigabyte-Windforce-GeForce-GTX10…

The link was posted here a few days ago but was removed possibly because ozbargain don't allow deals posted from Futugear as they are not a power rated seller (but were part of this sale).

There's still a few left at the time of this post.

    • That link goes to PCTech in NZ. Good if you live there, bad if in Australia and not going to get warranty covered.

      • Well if it dies on me within 2 years then I will just have to wait for an ozb sale on plane tickets across the ditch.

        All sold out now.

        • I got an EVGA gtx 1080ti sc2 as opposed to a better performing Gigabyte so that I would have EVGA's international warranty.

        • @shot:

I was going to buy the same card from them but I realised you will probably be hit with import taxes since it's over $1000 on the invoice rather than your actual costs after discount on Paypal.

        • @hogpig: Your credit card etc. and actual payment details will show $992 though.

        • +1

          @shot:

I guess you will have to show to the customs if your package get flagged if not everything should be good :)

          Enjoy your card mate!

      • +1

That link goes to PCTech in NZ. Good if you live there, bad if in Australia and not going to get warranty covered.

That link goes to Futuregear in NZ who are one of the worst sellers, they don't respond to emails, complaints in ebay, paypal disputes, they upload false tracking numbers and the list goes on. If you have a problem with them you can forget about warranty, better to buy in Australia.

        • Damn, that's not good to hear. Their feedback on ebay doesn't seem to be all that bad though? Hopefully I don't have these issues as I just ordered an GTX 1060 through them this morning.

        • Your crystal ball turned out to be correct.

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/357238

  • was looking to get a core i5 8600k from jw computer
$417 up to $435 in a matter of minutes

    • +1

      i was watching that to

    • 8700k went up by $27 as well. I had it in my cart, was hesitating, then it was too late. Price change.

Might wait for IceLake (rumoured to be Oct-core).

  • Be careful with Warehouse_1 - they're listed for the eBay 20% sale but don't offer Paypal payment for some specific items so there's no way to apply the discount code. Might happen with other sellers too.

    • Be careful with Warehouse_1 - they're listed for the eBay 20% sale but don't offer Paypal payment for some specific items so there's no way to apply the discount code. Might happen with other sellers too.

What items specifically because you can't exclude PayPal as a payment option, sounds like user error.

      • Linksys EA9200: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Linksys-EA9200-AU-AC3200-Tri-Ban…

I actually bought an Asus AC-RT68U from them yesterday, but for the item Paypal wasn't available and couldn't put in the coupon code so had to have my order cancelled. They've fixed it for this item today but a few here and there still have Paypal excluded.

  • Thankfully I dont need a GTX 1070 or 1080 but the price on the 6 gig GTX1060 isnt too bad at a tad over $400 after discount from Futu
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/361976563563

    • not a deal..

  • I need some new computer speakers ~ $70-150. Any good finds here?

    • Not here on this eBay sale, but the Logitech Z333 are definitely a nice pair of speakers. They are currently $69 @ PCCG and managed to price match at Officeworks to bring the price down to $65.
They are a very stylish pair of speakers and have amazing quality and sound! I totally recommend them!

  • +1

How is $400 for a 1060 a good deal? And since when do 1070s go for $700?? Ridiculous

    • The current state of mid/high end Video cards is at a price peak at the moment and cant see it going down anytime soon until the ETH price plummets.

  • +4

Well, glad I didn't upvote this deal (no offence OP, not your problem). Everything I was watching was price jacked, in some cases only minutes before the code started working.

I appreciate that the sellers might have their reasons for this (and thanks to the Computer Alliance rep for explaining some of the inner workings of these deals- I didn't realise that the sellers do actually have to wear some of the discount).

However, as a consumer these 'deals' are potentially very deceptive. You really have to be doing your homework and watching the prices like a hawk to actually be able to tell if the 20% off price is a good deal. I can see how 'non-professional' bargain hunters could easily be misled by this sort of thing.

Will be interesting to see if anything comes from the ACCC regarding this. I wonder if the days of these sorts of deals are numbered.

    • Yep, I just picked up a monitor I've been watching. The price was jacked just before the deal, though only $20. It still worked out $40 cheaper than the cheapest on staticice and about $80 less than the next cheapest on ebay. But no where near the advertised 20% off. On this particular item the bottom line pricing is less than 10% off elsewhere, so if ebay is meeting them say half way the sellers are knocking off less than 5%…

  • +1

Now I realised what everyone says about price jacking is correct.
Was about to post WD40EFRX @ shopping express clearance Monday night, while was preparing stuff and doing other works checked the price , was $171 and then went up to $215 (which makes it $172 with the code)!
at the moment the best deal is at PC Byte $159.2 if anyone wants to post it
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Western-Digital-Red-4TB-3-5-Inter…

    • +1

Thanks for that. Ordered the hdd

      • AND the HDD is $10 more today…

  • How do I post a deal from non-top rated seller?
There is a brother mfc 6930 for $192 after cashback but it's sold by Mediaform Computer Supplies.

    • When posting you'll see an alternative domain field, enter mediaform.com.au in there to override the top rated seller warning (we allow deals that aren't top rated seller as long as they have a website/store).

      • ok thanks

  • I quite pissed that sellers did not limit how many gpus people can buy since looking at the selling history of a gtx 1080ti aorus which had 20 stock only had people buying 3-5 units except for one person.

    • +5

If you were a seller would you limit how many sales you could do?

      • Probably. PCCG limits to 2 per person when they are short supply.

Also, the GPUs in question were all sold out within 45 minutes.

        • It would be a stupid business decision to limit sales.

        • @ronnknee: Possibly better than businesses receiving 100s of angry emails when things are constantly out of stock

        • +1

@shot: A business is about making money, not making people happy. It doesn't matter if you're angry now. You'll buy from them if they're the cheapest and back in stock.

        • @ronnknee: Also, retailers more likely to sell full systems or multiple non-GPU items to single GPU purchasers (gamers) rather than multiGPU miners who are only buying graphics cards. Limiting sales in certain situations is very logical.

  • +3

Pricks! Reporting jw_computers wanted to buy the Acer predeator x34 monitor it was $1,427 20% off brang it down to around 1,117 now they have jacked the price to $1,494. How are they getting away with this

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/222792715162

    • -2

its showing as $1442. Which Brings it down to $1153.60, $100 cheaper than anyone else. Show me where you can buy it cheaper than that? Its still a Bargain even though they raised their prices a bit.

      • +1

All the Negs and no one has shown me where it is cheaper or validate Nnolan posted the wrong price.

        • +2

All the Negs and no one has shown me where it is cheaper or validate Nnolan posted the wrong price.

Typical of the group of people who always complain about everything they can whilst the rest of OzBargain just get on with the job and buy bargains. Look at the huge number in here that can't even use the search facility and want to be told what they should buy or asking if this is a bargain etc.

  • Mediaform took down the Surface Book 2 listing I had my eye on just before the sale started. :(

  • Looking for an iPhone (refub ok) from an iPhone 6 up. Any deals? Is there a link to search all vendors? This is a helova lot of upvotes without seeing any products!

  • +2

Not really 20% off when you factor in the jack

    • +2

agree not a deal at all

  • I got an Asus gtx1060 for like 260 bucks from Futu last time was pretty happy with that

    • 3gig version or 6gig ?
Pretty much everywhere these days the 6 Gig name brands are around $400

      • 3gb. I've been playing Doom and Soma with it, it handles them no sweat, that's enough for me lol

  • Let the price jacking begin!

    • its already happend

  • Got a Pantech wh2900 weather station for $142.84 from Floralivings store. A genuine 20% off the regular price.

  • Had 5 items on my watch list and all of them were jacked up in price :(

  • $284 for a AOC Q3279VWF 32" monitor with freesync. I was looking at a philips for $420 but this was too cheap to pass up. I'm not expecting too much but hopefully it will do as an interim monitor. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/232628047549

  • Shopping Square jacked up the price for the Huawei Mate 10 to $899. It was $836.10 yesterday

  • Awesome, bought an iPhone 8 64GB for $922 Aus stock so I can get the GST back when I head overseas next month!

    • Where from?

      • +1

        AllPhones, https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Au-Stock-Apple-iPhone-8-64GB-Spa…

Also the invoice they send you doesn't have the discount shown on it so you'll get more back at the airport :)

        • Remember that the "value" of items you bring back must be less than $900, or you have to pay the GST on the lot. You may be able to argue depreciation if you are away long enough.

        • So the invoice shows the full $1152.99? And the invoice has the GST component printed on it?

That's a bloody good deal if it is

  • Yeah, waste of a lot of people's time. Was looking at the Hisense 55N7 from Videopro….they mysteriously removed from Ebay overnight but still on their online store. I guess at least they can say this is one of the few items they didn't price jack. Should be blacklisted

  • +1

Picked up an LG V20 from vaya store for $380, no price gouging. Guess it's too old for anyone to be much interested, lol.

  • Looking for iPad Pro 10'5..

  • Just got the Spark fly more for $751 delivered. Damn you ozbargain…

  • Looked up this HP i5 for around 526 + postage
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/222739112492

    Reasonable deal?

  • +1

PCbyte seems to be playing fiar. My son is looking at this gaming PC

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/AMD-Ryzen-5-1600X-4-0GHz-16GB-256…

It has been $1469 for a few days.$1175 would make it quite a good deal.

Do you get offered the option for the code after you commit to buy?
